The problem is not with the Russian drones, but with the ballistic missiles. They are too fast for the present anti-drone weapons to knock down. Thus the need for Patriots and other anti-ballistic systems.

No confirmed word on the fate of the aircrew. But if Ukraine planned this (they did) and had drones ready, there is a good chance that this pilot didn't make it. Parachute or no, this is not a gentleman's war.

It was weaponized in 2021 with fake outages, Enron style, to increase spot market price. It also leased much of the EU's storage and did not fill it ahead of winter. No gas was flowing a month before it was blown due barrel compressors crashed from hydrates forming in the lines feeding the compressor station on the Baltic.

said that only one step remains before Ukraine can begin launching its ballistic missile: testing the engine.
"Only after we test the engine will we begin flight tests. Then, as soon as we see that the missile is controllable and does what the algorithm tells it to do, we will begin testing it on Russia," he said.
?? According to Shtilierman, Russia has no experience intercepting ballistic missiles, and once Ukrainian missiles begin flying, it will not be able to quickly learn how to intercept them.
"Yes, they will learn, but we will learn much faster. We will use maneuvers to evade air defenses. The spear always defeats the shield," Shtilierman said.
?? The targets for Ukraine's ballistic missiles remain unchanged: Russia's capital and heavily protected military facilities.
"When a very large share of the missiles we launch begin reaching Moscow, I hope it will somehow change something in their minds," Shtilierman added.

Except for No. 34 (dry cargo) and No. 35 (tug), the targeting was to disable each tanker's ability to move cargo. Pumprooms being the top objective. These are located on deck level but inside the control structure, just where the main deck lines enter. Other targets were the bridge and the manifold racks. The manifold racks are where the shore hoses connect and again, without them nothing moves.
If you only have one drone, these are the best places to strike. The pumps, manifolds and deck lines are drained after each transfer, so the chance of a sustained fire is not as great. But hitting a cargo tank will not disable the vessel as long unless it's empty and has not been gas-freed with stack gas. Which is a practice I would guess is beyond any Russian's interest but why should the Ukrainians take the chance?

Austrian storage was like Henry Hub in Louisiana due it was the hub for gas flowing through the Brotherhood pipelines system decades earlier. The fact remains expanding capacity to Germany via Austra could have fulfilled German demand without Nordstream. However, that would have meant that it would go through Ukraine. Nordstream was never meant to boost Gazprom sales but to make Germany dependent on Russia.
