Yes, you would think the war was between Ukraine and the US the way these negotiations are presented.

If you just read Russian history, this is basically a new version of the Russian mindset ingrained for centuries now, it's hardwired. It really doesn't differ from the Arabic word Harb, meaning war. To Islam, war is everywhere not under Islamic rule. Meanwhile, peace is wherever Islam rules.

A residue of the “Tatar Yoke.” Russians have always defined their strength and worth by how much geographical territory they controlled... and how many people in that territory they controlled.

It would be good to point out that Trump is doing more than Biden to hasten Russia's economic demise. The globe has been getting around sanctions on oil for decades. The new LEGAL interdictions of tankers at Venezuela is hurting Russia. Sanctioning Russia oil companies directly also has had an impact.

My Russian friend reminded me that Tatars had as much influence.

It's not like he doesn't. He had ALL of the Central Asia heads in the Whitehouse at the same time recently. He's doing a lot more than the press is either aware of or willing to admit.

He also knows that the EU economy has recovered from its idiotic dalliance with "green" energy. They can definitely afford to support what is in their own backyard.

US/Ukkraine set to put forward a peace plan, but Russia likely to say Nyet. Meanwhile the Ukranians are successfully taking back Kupyansk and surrounds. It appears Russia is short of manpower and material.

quote:

Key Takeaways
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky released the latest US-Ukrainian-European 20-point peace plan on December 23, which the United States will reportedly present to Russia.
The Kremlin will need to compromise on demands it has long insisted on, including many that are incompatible not only with the latest 20-point peace plan but also with the initial 28-point plan.
Statements from Russian State Duma deputies and insider sources about Russia’s likely discontent with the latest proposals are in line with Kremlin statements and messaging in recent weeks about Russia’s demands and uncompromising negotiating position.
Kremlin-affiliated milbloggers are acknowledging significant Ukrainian successes in the Kupyansk direction and criticizing the Kremlin and the Russian military command for providing false battlefield reports.
Russian milbloggers also acknowledged that Russia’s failures in Kupyansk indicate that Russia does not have sufficient manpower or materiel to imminently defeat the northern part of the Fortress Belt while simultaneously continuing offensive operations elsewhere. Russian forces continue to strike energy infrastructure in Ukraine and particularly targeted critical infrastructure in Chernihiv Oblast overnight on December 23 and 24. Ukrainian forces recently advanced near Pokrovsk. Russian forces recently advanced near Hulyaipole.

Ukraine's General Staff says Storm Shadow missiles hit Novoshakhtinsk oil products plant

STANISLAV POHORILOV — 25 December, 14:10

General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed that Air Force units have carried out a successful strike with Storm Shadow air-launched cruise missiles on the Novoshakhtinsk oil products plant in Russia's Rostov Oblast on 25 December.

Source: General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Details: The Ukrainian military said that multiple explosions have been recorded. The target has been hit and the scale of the damage is being confirmed.

The Novoshakhtinsk plant is one of the largest suppliers of petroleum products in southern Russia and is directly involved in supporting the armed forces of the Russian Federation. The facility supplies the Russian troops with diesel fuel and aviation kerosene.

Novoshakhtinsk, Russia. At least six explosions were reported at the local oil refinery. The Novoshakhtinsk Petroleum Products Plant has a processing capacity of roughly 110,000 barrels per day or about 5 million tons annually and is considered one of the most important refineries in southern Russia.

Oil shipments from Kazakhstan via Novorossiysk will drop by around 30 percent in December, according to Reuters. Exports through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium are set to hit their lowest level since October 2024 after damage at the main export terminal caused by a Ukrainian drone strike in November.

The terminal is operating with only one offshore loading point, with another disabled by the attack and a third stuck in delayed repairs due to bad weather near Novorossiysk.

Putin repeatedly and publicly made outlandish claims about Russian control of Kupyansk, and about the allegedly encircled 15 Ukrainian battalions there. He even dismissed Zelensky’s recent visit to the city entrance as a fake.
quote:

Why is Kupyansk important? Putin wants to trade the largely rural and insignificant parts of Kharkiv, Sumy and Dnipro regions that Russia currently controls for the major cities in northern Donetsk, as per the Witkoff-Dmitriev plan. Kupyansk, in Kharkiv, would have been the by far biggest of the cities in these areas. Now it is no longer one of Putin’s cards.
quote:

Why is Kupyansk even more important? After two years of slow but continuous retreats, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have demonstrated that they retain the capacity for a large, sustained counteroffensive— and that territorial losses to Russia are not forever. This undercuts the argument that Kyiv should sign a bad deal immediately because the deal on the table in the future will be even worse.
quote:

Does this mean that the trend of the overall war has reversed? No, Russia is still advancing, albeit slowly, on other axes, such as Huluaipole in Zaporizhzhia, an area where current frontlines are supposed to be frozen once the Witkoff-Dmitriev plan is agreed. But Kupyansk shows that Ukraine is not about to collapse, and that it has cards to play — and surprises up the sleeve.

An amine unit removes those from natural gas. If sour enough (H2S) then likely a sulfuric acid plant.

There are several larger in the USA than that by double in throughput in a number of states This is the equivalent to 360MM SCFD. Now it is a big plant, no doubt, but not the world's largest by any measure.
