But it doesn't have a damn thing to do with any vital US interest beyond those of a handful of people in DC. Our interest is avoiding WW3 with Russia, not bumbling into it.
Ukraine was a part of the USSR for most of my youth and the Soviet Union dominated eastern Europe.
We did just fine. As a matter of fact the world was more peaceful then than it is now.

All throughout history nations have been forced to pay for wars they lost either justly or unjustly. If Russia loses decisively they will pay. At least if nothing else to rebuild Ukraine. There is plenty of historical precedent for it. I don’t know why y’all think this is such an outlandish idea.

But Russia by far is the bad actor and in the scope of geopolitics they are losing. NATO is now more powerful than ever while Russia wastes its conventional resources on a third tier country.

Russia has not launched these type of attack in weeks. sending a few at a time, they get intercepted. waiting until they can stockpile a large quantity and launch a massive strike can better overwhelm the Ukrainian air defense system and allow more to go through.
from reports most were destroyed that were sent at kviv but outer cities more got through.
