Lafourche Parish President issues warning to residents: Further restrictions are coming

Lafourche Gazette
This is from my small hometown newspaper, but illustrates the power hungry attitude that has emboldened local authorities.
Power hungry much?
Little old ladies snitching on their neighbors
Get out the pitchforks. I fear these Barney Fife types more than the virus.

quote:
We've asked you guys for about 3 weeks now to stay home," Chaisson said. "And while most of you are, we know that some of you aren't getting the message. ... I'm giving everyone fair warning at this point that in the coming days, you will see further restrictions on this parish. I have said all along that this is not about politics for me. This is about keeping our community safe. It's not about advancing socialism or any personal agenda. But because of these growing numbers, I feel the need that we are going to have some further restrictions on not only what businesses are essential and what businesses I will allow to stay open,
Power hungry much?
quote:
Chaisson's words were more pointed than they'd been in recent days. He said yesterday, he was "frustrated" with calls of people who are not following recommendations, and today, with another jump in Lafourche cases, he vowed to take definitive action to fight the issue.

Chaisson also said he's heard rumors of gatherings at local hospitals for public prayer, like what took place last night at Terrebonne General. Chaisson said similar demonstrations WILL NOT be allowed in Lafourche as the parish further advances its policies of urging folks to stay home.
Get out the pitchforks. I fear these Barney Fife types more than the virus.

All in the name of safety ...?

Do these fricking idiots not realize this isn't how you get things done?

Are the Lafourche Parish hospitals overwhelmed? I mean, they must be for him to be so worked up, right?

Look at his picture and you’ll see why he’s worked up. This is his moment to make up for all the people who bullied him in High School.

He says he's frustrated by calls of people not following guidelines. I hate to be cliche and use the Nazi example, but it's really easy to see how a society can come to that kind of situation when you have people in fricking Lafourche Parish reporting each other for leaving the house

It’s crazy how the government, even little local governments can wield so much power, and how so many citizens are compliant and aid the authoritarians!
I have many conservative friends on Facebook absolutely gleeful when the government threatens to crack skulls.

A couple of simple answers to these narcs:
1. If you’re staying home and social distancing, how would you know these people aren’t?
2. If you’re staying home and social distancing, why the frick are you so worried about what other people are doing?
Social media may not have created the busybody, poke-your-nose-in-your-neighbor’s-business culture we have in our society, but it sure as hell hasn’t done anything to discourage it.

Being originally from there, many many many people that I know are freaking the frick out on Facebook over this. Calling for the government to impose some of the most draconian measures you can think of. I’ve been completely floored by some of their statements. This includes some of my own relatives. What was that quote by Franklin about purchasing temporary safety?

I'm from there originally too and am seeing the same. My dad still lives there and I know he's going to be pissed. He's already daring the powers that be to stop him from getting his lottery tickets. I haven't seen this article on fb yet but I already know I'm going to be disgusted at all the cheerleaders

I was raised there also, Larose, and many of my relatives are so worked up with fear, I think they would turn on each other if the authorities asked them to name names. This should be way more frightening to everyone than the virus.

That says it all.
Somebody needs to ask him "Just exactly who in the frick are you?"

Sounds to me like a duly elected official is giving his constituents what they want. So who should you really be upset with?

well, I actually heard him speak this afternoon.
He actually comes across as one of the more grounded people I've heard yet, and not nearly as harsh as this article makes him sound.
He's not (as of today) implementing any curfews like neighboring parishes (Terrebonne) are.
Mainly because he feels they don't accomplish anything.
And they're apparently watched traffic and how many people are out at night, etc. and don't feel its necessary.
I think if anything, this quote in this article is lip service to the people calling to bitch about Timmy down the street going to work every day.
Or Billy next door having the audacity to boil seafood outside for his family.
