For them its better to be pure and "correct" instead of achieve anything. Gridlock used to be a valid strategy for libertarians, but with how partisan it is these days it does nothing. The only people who "cross the aisle" are the libertarians masquerading as Republicans. Their seats should be filled by actual Republicans.
