LINK

Ivey, 47 percent
Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, 11 percent
Birmingham evangelist Scott Dawson, 9 percent
Mobile state Sen. Hightower, 4 percent
Undecided, 30 percent.

Pretty obvious why she doesn't want to debate. It is surprising that Battle isn't doing a little better though. He's kind of cucked it up in the last several months so it's not too shocking to see him so far behind. He was too scared to rock the boat and thought he could run a stock campaign with a generic platform. Very Jeb!-like campaign. You don't beat incumbents in Alabama that way.

Unless someone wants to go Karl Rove and go all in on the alleged rumors that Ivey's a lesbian or something, I don't see how she doesn't win the Primary & General in a landslide.

30% is a huge number though. This is all about who can make it to runoff.

The problem Battle has to deal with is the same one Mo Brooks faced in the Senate GOP nomination race, they are both centered in North Alabama. Getting folks in the rest of Alabama to vote for someone in Huntsville/North Alabama is almost impossible, which is a crying shame since North Alabama is light years ahead of the rest of the state economically.

Tough road to go against the Bob Riley machine in the Alabama GOP.

30% is a lot, but all Ivey would have to do is get 4% of it and there's no need for a runoff.

The Battle number is what stands out to me. It's not like he has no money. He's been campaigning hard for over a year.

According to a friend of mine in Huntsville, he lost a good deal of local support when he backed Roy Moore in the Senate election. And not just voters, a lot of volunteers left him.

I was hoping for a Battle/Maddox showdown in the general, but that looks doubtful now. I think Maddox can beat Ivey though, where I don't think he could beat Battle.

They are the worst. Ivey's ads make Tim James' ads look like Oscar-bait.

I mean, I'm no fan but she's done a pretty good job considering the shite show she inherited.

Speaking of Alabama politics -

Anyone in the Birmingham area get confused by the Chris Christie signs everywhere? I had to pull off the road and look it up when I first saw one.

That's the general feeling. Of course she had been planning that transition for months. If Bentley had served out his term, this would be a different race. Ivey might not have even run.

I'm just not a fan of having another governor cruise into office without having to really earn it. It just invites trouble.
