The timing and a deliberate attempt at character assassination are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

Plus, your argument completely ignores the ignoble behavior of the Democrats since that time. The confirmation process afforded Sen. Feinstein plenty of opportunity to call for FBI investigation well before the scheduled committee vote. As Ted Cruz noted today, the allegation could have been probed privately, as Dr. Ford clearly wished -- but given the lack of evidence substantiating Dr. Ford's claims, that likely would have quietly fizzled out, thus depriving the Democrats a relished opportunity to try Judge Kavanaugh in the court of public opinion and drag his name through the mud.

I'm sorry, but Dr. Ford's allegation served as pretext for the Democrats to engage in deliberate character assassination. Any claim to the contrary just isn't credible given how events have unfolded since 7/6.

Even if true, it proves nothing. It's one date. Dr. Ford can't provide hard information about the date or the location. And Ford's own account of the # and gender of the people at the party has mutated repeatedly. Above all else, Dr. Ford's claims remain utterly unsubstantiated.
