PHOENIX — Kari Lake, a Republican Senate candidate in Arizona who has amplified former president Donald Trump’s false claims about rigged elections, has decided not to defend statements she made about a top election official in the state’s largest county who sued her for defamation.

Attorneys for Lake, her 2022 campaign for governor and an affiliated nonprofit group on Tuesday asked a judge to begin the process of determining damages as part of a lawsuit brought by Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer (R), in his personal capacity. Attorneys not affiliated with the case say a judge must agree to the request.

Richer alleged in a lawsuit filed last year that Lake, her campaign and the group repeatedly and falsely accused him of causing Lake to lose the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial election, unleashing a barrage of threats against him and his family. Richer’s complaint sought to hold Lake and her allies accountable for her claims that Richer had “sabotaged the election to prevent Republican candidates, including Lake, from winning.”

Donald Trump’s false claims about rigged elections

Just 2000 and 2016 were rigged.

And if trump wins in 2024, Russia.

I don't follow AZ politics but I assume this is one of those deals where you admit no guilt or wrongdoing but settle anyway because the money is better spent on campaigning and not on lawyers to fight it or the bad PR during your election campaign.

On the radio here in Phoenix, they went into detail about this, she chose not to fight the charges, but they still have to prove damages, which her side argues there are none. Cost saving move which she thinks she will win.

This damages her credibility and I’m a fan of Lake. Now it looks like she was casting baseless aspersions and got challenged.

...solid case of the figs. He's a whimpy bureaucrat that sucks at his job and doesn't think he should be criticized for sucking at his job. The 19" ballot/tabulator didn't result in cheating, but it was a huge mistake and cost a lot of people a lot of time.

Imagine being anything but disgusted by this.

I love how everyone said they never got their day in court with their evidence....only for all the publix election deniers to get sued for defamation left and right....most turned out as expected grifting for stupid peoples money.... But none of them have come forward with smoking guns that clearly show how they were right and the election was stolen. The easiest way to win these cases would be proving their side with evidence.....
