The problem with political philosophy as it applies to Rs and Ds is that it is never constant. Rs and Ds are morally inconsistent and adjust their political philosophies on the fly to pander to whatever whim the populace has at the time. Even a cursory review of American history teaches us that.
So the claim that the Rs are pro-immigration is just as true as the claim that they are anti-immigration. It just depends on how far you want to go back in history to support your position.
