Justin Amash says that some members of House have been "not that nice" to him. Thanks Liberty Caucus pals for texting him tonight. #MI03

quote:

"With the number of establishment interest groups against me, this is really a remarkable margin of victory," - Amash #MI03

quote:

"To Brian Ellis, you owe my family and this community and apology for a disgusting and despicable smear campaign," - Justin Amash #MI03

quote:

Amash going off at the microphone. To Ellis he says "I ran for office to stop people like you..." Quite the victory speech. #MI03

quote:

Amash also had strong words for former congressman Pete Hoekstra, who endorsed Ellis. “I want to say to lobbyist Pete Hoekstra, you’re a disgrace,” he said. “I’m glad we could hand you one more loss before you fade into total obscurity and irrelevance.”

quote:

“(Ellis) ran a smear campaign. It was despicable. It was disgusting. And then he had the audacity to call me up and try to make nice. He’s what wrong with politics, people like him. And I stood up to these people. They lie, they smear, they distort, and then they think everything’s fine afterwards and it’s not fine,” Amash said.

quote:

When I mentioned to Amash that critics will say he should have at least answered Ellis' concession call, he laughed. #MI03

Justin Amash

I love it. There is no accepting the phone call from the other guy because "hey, we all do what it takes to win, good on ya!"

I hope the establishment GOP knows that we are coming for them and the statist democrats alike.

The problem now with the Establishment wing of the GOP, including Karl Rove and his ilk, will do NOTHING to help the conservative, tea party or libertarian candidates. They could care less if a Democrat gets elected because of their lack of support and should be called on the carpet in public for it.

Here's a bit of the speech; LINK

Well, a little more scripted and less emotional than I thought it would be, but the content was spot on.

You're right on the first part, but not the reasoning. The establishment types don't mind losing to dems because it provides valuable fund raising material when Dems are in power. Do you ever wonder why POTUS whines so much about Republicans? It's because that shakes loose the pockets of his base

Didn't the tea-party candidates (including an incumbent) lose every other primary last night?

And that's not really my idea of a victory speech. I guess it's the kind of thing you'd like if you like that kind of thing. I didn't follow the race, so I guess I don't know what he's so pissed off about (though see my sig quote).

I'm the furthest thing from a Tea Party fan, but Amash is one of the few guys who walks the walk when it comes to having libertarian instincts. (Examples: he brought the first floor vote against the NSA after the Snowden leaks which almost passed despite being whipped against by both parties, and was one of less than a dozen reps who voted against Israel's Iron Dome welfare check last week.) For that he gets shite on by establishment front groups like the Chamber of Commerce and the Right to Life Committee who twist his positions on omnibus bills and individual votes despite being free-market and pro-life. He has a legit reason to be mad as hell in this race.

There are things about Amash I like.

Waging war on the establishment and then whining like a bitch about people being mean to him is not one of the things.
