There are two responsibilities here. Protecting his own life and Protecting the lives of others .....Pay attention to that part before shooting your emotions like a little girl.

I learned to shoot while living in Wyoming. Real life situation ..
Arrive from Tampa to Lake Martin for a ball game at Auburn. Ten hours of driving with one stop for gas and to eat.
Arrive ...to hear my two brothers shooting at cans in dirt bank ...Cans alive and uninjured ...

Are you for real? A warning shot? The blue lights, siren, vocal commands, etc didn’t alter the actions. If dude doesn’t shoot to stop the threat the other girl dies. And a warning shot where? In the air in a residential area? Gravity is a thing. In the road? And it ricochets into a bystander.
The knife attacker limited the officers options. Too fat to safely tase, too stupid to stop, too privileged to access her actions as inappropriate. His only viable option was to stop the threat. And in doing so her family will win the ghetto lottery.

Honestly...this is a horrendous take, that can not be walked back. The fact that you actually think there is even the remotest of possibilities that someone should offer up a warning shot, to shoot for a reason OTHER than to kill (incapacitate) is 5 Star Middle Aged Facebook women level thinking.
And it's THIS that will keep this story alive, so don't bother today being surprised that it keeps going. Take heart in knowing that you got to play at least a small part in why stories like this one turn the way they do.
