Just because Flake called for a delay, doesn't mean there will be one

My understanding is that McConnell can call for the vote at his discretion.

He can call it, but Flake won't vote to confirm.

yes, he can.

But if C or M defect on cloture vote, it won't pass.

Flake only pledged his vote to send it out of committee. But asked for up to a week the the FBI investigation to get his Yes in the full Senate.

While it would be great to have his support, the Rs dont need him to confirm.

Correct, motion passed to move Kavanaugh to Senate floor for vote, no amendment, delay is at discretion of Senate Majority Leader.

Right, even Flake knows that. He just gave the Dems lip service so that they can go out there and whine about needing to delay the floor vote for the FBI.

Pence breaks any ties, so I’m not sure Flake is critical.
Will we get Manchin?

That is my understanding as well but if other Republicans on the fence take the same stance as Flake then they may not have the votes.

If he has the votes they vote. If he doesn't he will call for the FBI.

I still think Manchin votes to confirm, Flake may not be important ans he and the democrats think.

With McCain out, it's a 50-49 R vs. Dems (including two independents that caucus with Dems). If Flake goes, it's the opposite. Pence can only vote in a tie.

McCain has already been replaced with Kyl.

Flank, Collins, and Murkowski are holding all the cards. Anyone who thinks that Jeff flake did not consult the other two prior to this afternoon’s little show is a complete and utter moron. McConnell has the good sense to agree to the week delay. He understands the legislative process. The question is whether Trump will blow up and refused to assign the FBI.

Flake is the type of politician that claims to be principled but just does things to help his own arse out. When he got cornered in that room, he came up with a way out. Let’s see how it plays out.
