Is there any states that don’t recognize it as an actual holiday? Apparently Ga does because I’m making bank while drinking beer.

TBH I’d rather be at work, I wouldn’t be working nearly as hard and my wife acts like she owns me and my sole purpose is landscaping.

The only real question is that it was never recognized until Trump. Obama did not even recognize the holiday.

It could be like Flag Day on the calendar but not observed.

It's a gibberish 'holiday'. If the country wanted to celebrate the 13th Amendment, sure. That is what ended slavery.

Juneteenf is just so much mumbo jumbo. Pity those poor bastards whose massa pledged allegiance to the Union---they don't get their manumission for another half a year.

You DO realize that recognition of a federal holiday is a matter for Congress to handle by statute and that Congress did not pass such an Act until 2021 ... right?

You DO realize that?

South Carolina does not. They are trying to force us to pick Confederate Memorial Day or Juneteenth to take off in the future, which will be a monumental cluster f*&$K. How do you have optional paid holidays? Do you shut down half the government offices? Just give us both days off you cheap aholes.

Kentucky still had legal slavery until the ratification of the 13th amendment 6 months after Juneteenth. So why not celebrate the real end of slavery?

It is like a cafeteria plan. You can pick "x-number" of items (days off). Texas did it for decades. We survived the horror of it all.

I found the guy who thinks Jesus was born on December 25th.

Why do you care? It's not your holiday?

Being that my people actually did the hard work of deciding the issue, yeah, I get a vote. Piss off.

Juneteenth question

Why is called "Juneteenth"? Teenth isn't a number. If it was always the 19th, is it racist to call it Juneteenth as removing the nine perpetuates the freed slaves inability to count?

I'm lucky. My wife's middle name is 'oblivious'. Last month I said 'How do you like the rose bushes up front along the fence? They're really blooming this year.'
Her: 'We have rose bushes?'

When I grew up in the 40s and 50s, POCs didn't want to work on June 19th, but that day wasn't called Juneteenth - it was called something else.

"my people did"... famous words from somebody whose done absolutely nothing and wants credit simply for being born, which they also had absolutely nothing to do with.

Teenth is a number in certain social groups.

I spent the weekend around Atlanta for a ball tournament, I didn’t understand half of what was said. I did hear a lot of profanity though.
