My point is that historically people in this country have used voter registration laws to suppress the voting voice of certain groups. This false narrative that illegals are voting en masse is step 1 of enacting legislation that suppressed the vote. See Kris Kobach in Kansas.
This concept is deeply divisive because it is rooted in race. For example, there’s nothing wrong with Voter ID laws, but enacting Voter ID laws with the intention of keeping poor, rural black people from the polls because you KNOW they don’t have Voter ID is against the Voting Rights Act of 1964.

It’s not that I’m against investigating potential voter fraud. I’m against using voter fraud hysteria to pass needless legislation that only serves as a de-facto disenfranchisement so one party can maintain an edge in a close election.

I went to a continuing legal education symposium put on at the Memphis Law School Friday called "Barriers to the Ballot Box" that was all about voter id, purging inactive voters from voting lists, gerrymandering and felon disenfranchisement. They had a panel of 3 on voter id laws and illegals voting, one guy was pro voter id one was representing the middle ground and then one lady who I think was supposed to be against voter id but her entire presentation was really only about how college id should be sufficient to vote. I'm going to see if I can find links to the materials online, it would be great reading for those interested.

i stated clearly that i'm perfectly willing to accept that voter fraud may exist and even swing elections, even though based on the anecdotes that "everyone knows" that may in fact be going too far

this isn't proof of 900,000. I am not dumb enough to believe that their isn't voter fraud in elections. I just don't believe dumb arse statements that the OP has used as an example.
