But they had devastating effects on society as a whole.

This isn't some second-rate institution that put this study out either. This is Johns Hopkins - the premiere research hospital in all America and perhaps the entire world.

quote:

A new working paper from Johns Hopkins University’s “Studies in Applied Economics” institute claims that COVID-19 lockdowns imposed by a variety of governments worldwide had “little to no effect” on COVID-19 mortality. The study, conducted by three professors from around the world, also found that lockdowns “imposed enormous economic and social costs” and are “ill-founded and should be rejected as a pandemic policy instrument.”

According to the study released this week, lockdowns were defined “as the imposition of at least one compulsory, non-pharmaceutical intervention (NPI). NPIs are any government mandate that directly restrict peoples’ possibilities, such as policies that limit internal movement, close schools and businesses, and ban international travel.”

The study then narrowed down 18,590 studies to 34 “‘qualified’ studies after three levels of review.” From those potential studies, “24 qualified for inclusion in the meta-analysis,” used to make their conclusion:

They were separated into three groups: lockdown stringency index studies, shelter-in-placeorder (SIPO) studies, and specific NPI studies. An analysis of each of these three groups support the conclusion that lockdowns have had little to no effect on COVID-19 mortality.

More specifically, stringency index studies find that lockdowns in Europe and the United States only reduced COVID-19 mortality by 0.2% on average.

SIPOs were also ineffective, only reducing COVID-19 mortality by 2.9% on average. Specific NPI studies also find no broad-based evidence of noticeable effects on COVID-19 mortality.

While this meta-analysis concludes that lockdowns have had little to no public health effects, they have imposed enormous economic and social costs where they have been adopted. In consequence, lockdown policies are ill-founded.

The study elaborated further, stating that the overall conclusion was “that lockdowns are not an effective way of reducing mortality rates during a pandemic, at least not during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The study elaborated further, stating that the overall conclusion was “that lockdowns are not an effective way of reducing mortality rates during a pandemic, at least not during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

As the study noted, “a major purpose of lockdowns is to save lives.”

So did they? The study claimed to have answered that question with a resounding “no”:

Finally, allow us to broaden our perspective after presenting our meta-analysis that focuses on the following question: “What does the evidence tell us about the effects of lockdowns on mortality?”

We provide a firm answer to this question: The evidence fails to confirm that lockdowns have a significant effect in reducing COVID-19 mortality. The effect is little to none.

The use of lockdowns is a unique feature of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lockdowns have not been used to such a large extent during any of the pandemics of the past century.

However, lockdowns during the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic have had devastating effects.

They have contributed to reducing economic activity, raising unemployment, reducing schooling, causing political unrest, contributing to domestic violence, and undermining liberal democracy.

These costs to society must be compared to the benefits of lockdowns, which our meta-analysis has shown are marginal at best. Such a standard benefit-cost calculation leads to a strong conclusion: lockdowns should be rejected out of hand as a pandemic policy instrument.

Lockdowns, distancing, masks, etc. were never about health. Many of us on here have been saying as much from the get go.

But unlike climate change, maybe, just maybe the masses will come around to our way of thinking with enough publications like this. Thank for posting.

Yup. It was always about control and seeing just how far they could push the sheep. It's merely laying the groundwork for additional future subservience.

And in a lot of places, it still isn't over. No one dumber than a sack of bricks should have this level of control, ever, even if elected. See: Latoya Cantrell.

Mentioned this yesterday, but didn’t link the release….

This should be the nail in the coffin.

The UK dropping restrictions, Denver dropping all restrictions, this…. The snowball is gaining momentum.

Yea this is nothing new to us who knew from the beginning this was all a power grab.

People who didn’t know I’ll never understand how because none of the policies made any sense.

First main problem was how governments could cherry pick which types of business were deemed ”Necessary”

So you couldn’t get a medical procedure unless you were dying but you could shop at Home Depot all you wanted. Wtf ?

If that didn’t raise red flags for you then you are a sheep.

Yet right now you could do a poll and somewhere around 60% of Democrats would still be in favor of lockdowns and stay at home orders.

We have a family in our neighborhood who had the wife quit her job in the fall because she demanded to stay at home. I’ve seen her only a handful of times since the beginning and that’s mostly her going to her mailbox fully masked and her head on a swivel looking out for anybody who might get too close. Another neighbor told me they have put less than 1,000 miles on their vehicles since March 2020. They and their kids are absolutely terrified. Everything delivered. They are from Cali so I really shouldn’t be surprised, but I bet there are many more like them out there.

The explanation I'm hearing is that the virus has weaken to the point where it is similar to the common flu and should be treated as such.

This is how it should have been treated from day 1.

Can I just point out that shorty Rob expressed the exact conclusions of this study in March of 2020? It's honestly amazing to me that this even had to be studied. People who believe in this s*** are just f****** stupid. And the people who know better that pushed it on you are just a bunch of totalitarian wannabes call felt like they had to "DO SOMETHING".

Every last motherfuker that supported this crap showed a complete disregard for the concept multivariable thinking. Left to their own devices they would have bankrupted the entire world to save 100 people. The left is populated entirely by morons and leaders of morons

There was a poll last week.

Hotair link - 47% of Democrats agree that it's time to move on from Covid. 51% Disagree.

The reason for this is pretty simple.

Free shite.

The current generation of left wingers are the most worthless and lazy generation this country has ever seen. Just totally putrid people

This has been done repeatedly, and the conclusions are quite clear. The vaccines were doing a decent job of preventing infection until Omicron circumvented them fairly regularly. The vaccines did, and still do, a great job of limiting bad outcomes. Lastly, they have proven to be very safe, with only a small number of probable deaths and health problems.

Conclusion: Anyone vulnerable should be vaccinated and current on boosters. For anyone who is a young and healthy adult it's probably a toss up as to whether they should get vaccinated. For those under about 12 it's inadvisable to get vaccinated. And for those who have already had covid, vaccination is pointless.

Surprised. This is actually progress for progressives.

Problem is: the programming worked. A vast majority, left and right, will snap to at the first command of the next "public emergency."

ETA: Not sure if this exactly fits, but was thinking of this FC scene "Calm as Hindu Cows."

and many experts predicted this exact occurrence right from the outset because of the weakness of the vaccines. Of course they were completely ignored but it isn't like they didn't exist. In fact it wasn't just experts. It was basically everybody who remembered everything that ever been caught prior to March of 2020 when we pretended that none of that s*** had ever been taught.

The vaccines did, and still do, a great job of limiting bad outcomes.
which isn't a vaccine and is the reason the experts predicted the eventual results. It always amazes me how the left can for s*** on people while a subset of people make an opposing prediction. Then when the opposing prediction actually happens the left always acts like it was a lucky guess. Like it was impossible to foresee. Hogwash

and all of this was flagrantly obvious no later than about June 2020

That book hasn't been written yet. We shall see as I watch from the sidelines.
