It is sad to know that John Walton will no longer be accompanying me on my morning drive. I have been listening since they emerged out of the wasteland that was New Orleans radio in the early 1980's at WQUE And have followed them and their cast of characters around the dial. They have been local radio.

Remember Mr. Kenneth breaking out his Wang ....computer
Billy Ed bringing in his dog, Secs and they would have Secs on the air. I still miss ole Amos and his stories. Abdul Khamel Jockee and his 7-11 specials or when We found that Mr. Eaux was really Craven Morehead . Back in the 80's they were really just WRONG.......it was great. They destroyed their competition.

I wonder what Shari Bernardi is doing these days?

This one hurts

I’ve been listening to W&J since, I guess, 96.9 in Alexandria dropped Bob and Tom. Dad always listened to Bob and Tom and it rubbed off on me, so one morning I tuned in to listen to them and noticed it was Walton and Johnson and been listening to them ever since. There was nothing like hearing Little Wing followed by that first 30 minutes of the show with a hot cup coffee while driving to make an impromptu morning hunt before work.

Exactly. It was like having the sarcastic-yet-witty uncle in the truck.

The evening news said he went home to be with family and then "died on his own terms" which usually means he chose the time and place of his death.
We should all be lucky enough to have the right to do so....

We lost a great patriot and witty man with entertaining humor.

He will be missed. I also grew up on these guys.

Producer Ken had a big heart standing in for John Walton, but he's not the man for the job full time, we know it and he knows it.

Let's hope they find the right guy to follow John Walton helping Johnson enlighten and humor us all in the mornings.

RIP

Really saddened. the man was brilliant and the radio show was better than ever the last couple years.

I’m glad I listened to it a lot in those last couple years. I knew the show would either be silenced, they’d retire, or otherwise come to an end. Again, RIP.

I was listening to the app and caught the Monday show. They said it was the anniversary of the death of Wolfman Jack, 24 years ago Monday.

So Walton died 24 years to the day after Wolfman Jack.

Damn, this is really a loss to me. John Walton is a radio legend and will be sorely missed. Makes me sad that I’ll never hear his sarcastic and hilarious takes on current events.

Don’t think anyone can replace him unfortunately.

They had some funny sketches back when they were a comedy team. But then they turned into right wing radio.

when media was just tv, print and radio, they were hugely important.

brought a perspective you couldn’t get elsewhere. its hard to understand for someone who has only been exposed to total media saturation.

Listening to the call-in show right now. They mentioned the Paul Stanley interview during which Walton hung up on Stanley and was then pelted by Kiss fans. I'm sorry I never got to hear that. I wonder if it exists somewhere on the internet.

They had it for some time after as they would often play snippets from that.

John was famous for pissing off famous guests - Bill Burr, Paul Stanley, Christopher Plummer, Terry Bradshaw.

Frankly, if the celebrity guest wasn't a long-time friend of the shoe (Ralphie May, Herman Cain come to mind), it typically didn't go well. Christopher Plummer hung up on them. John hung up on Paul Stanley. Burr just didn't get it. Terry Bradshaw was listening on hold when John said, "What's Bradshaw selling, some book?" to which Terry took offense.

It was just great radio when they had a celebrity guest.

The Plummer hang up was legendary... "So long"... He was so offended they hadn't watched his boring movie before interviewing him.

I found it on YT under "Paul Stanley owns radio host."

Yeah, right. The "Kiss Army" reminds me of the callers to Jim Rome - just a bunch of mushheads who have nothing clever to say.

They just ended with his wife calling in. It's tough. I remember when my old broadcasting partner died. He got sick while on the air, it got worse over time.

We finished out the football season and he was gone a couple of months later. And while I left the fabulous life of radio a couple of years later, I always appreciated the guys who did it the old way. Some still exist, and some young ones are reminiscent of the old ones.

The signals all fade out in the end. Like ripples on a pond, they travel as far as their energy can carry them, then smooth out until finally, the needle goes flat.

Godspeed, radio man.

Is this a phrase you crafted or did you get it from somewhere?

Either way, bravo, bb, bravo. (Especially if the former.)

In these days of Google, especially, I would never lift anything without giving credit. No, that was something I came up with after hearing Mr. Steve's last goodbye a minute ago. After 36 (or so) years, it got to leave a person feeling empty.
