The Dems' leftist war against Russia isn't any of our concern. Putin is likely the best thing to happen to Europe and Russia in recent history.

In fact, Europe's destiny would improve dramatically if they would simply stop resisting and support the idea of a Russian Orthodox Theocracy to clean house on the entire continent.

The graying bear is getting a make-over. Russia's military is launching its biggest rearmament effort since Soviet times, including a $650 billion program to procure 1,000 new helicopters, 600 combat planes, 100 warships, and 8 nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines...

But they laughed at Romney when he expressed distrust of Russia and global peace in general.

Add this to the equation.
We are by treaty bound to come to the aid of Ukraine if they called for it

Isn't Russia bound by the same treaty?

I did not know the answer but if in fact they're bound to the treaty it would appear they are in violation.

Never give an ultimatum that you are not willing to follow through with.

In any negotiation, never, never reveal your escalation strategy.

Begin by entering into negotiations with Ukraine about returning nuclear weapons they gave away for autonomy in the 1990's. Since this treaty was broken by Russia a return the previous situation should now legally occur.

Now, you cut negotiations off with Russia, begin negotiating with Ukraine on return of nukes and renter plans for building missile defense shield in Poland.

If we didn't want Ukraine to have nukes in the 90's, why do we want them to have some now?

Forget "red line" begin mobilizing a response. There is only one way to deal with a bully and that's to punch back. Peace through strength. Economic sanctions will be mild because Europe is terrified about natural gas from Russia.

A nuclear Ukraine that is EU friendly would scare the shite out of Russia, plus a return to our plans with missile shields in Poland. Begin bringing Ukraine into NATO and see how bad Putin wants to hold on to Crimea.

I came here to find out what international law Russia broke that Kerry mentioned. This can't be it because he specifically sites the referendum vote.

What is the actual international law Kerry is speaking of? Anyone know?

I must not have read up on this enough, but why does anyone care if Crimea decided to join Russia and leave Ukraine?

Without enough background, it sounds like if Alaska wanted to leave the US and join Canada. No one should care except the US and Canada.

Please advise.

That's actually a good strategy. Allow Ukraine to defend themselves without firing a shot.

Neither Russia, Europe or US wanted them to have nukes. By breaking Crimea away the Ukraine is now about 70% in favor of joining NATO. The problem is back then nobody knew how the government would break as far as allies. Now, we have a different chess board.

We don't have to follow through if Russia backs away. I would just start moving pieces in order to unsettle Russia.

The Russian Navy Ochakov Kara-class cruiser was sunk last night to block the Ukrainian Navy ships deployed in Novoozerne, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence said in a press release today.

The information was confirmed by the Ukrainian military of the South Naval Base who were observing the operation.

The RF ships blocking the Ukrainian ships in Donuzlav lake in the Crimea left the zone at 23.30 p.m. (March 5).
