This guy is completely under qualified to be a federal judge. He has never tried a case at any level. Good for our Louisiana Senator for recognizing that.

I am quite sure there are plenty of conservative figures that trump administration could have selected that meet the requirements of the job, just goes to show how lazy trump administration is when it comes to appointments. We derserve better this

It's insane that someone with so little real world experience in actual legal practice would be put up for the bench. Never tried a jury or bench trial, or even so much as argued a motion in any court (basically he's never SET FOOT in a courtroom as a lawyer). Never taken a deposition by himself, and only been involved in about 5 total.

By the way, Obama had some similarly terrible nominees for the federal bench (they all do), some who got through early on. Find me an example of a democratic senator grilling one of those in a similar manner as this. Betcha can't.

Obama isn't president anymore so stop melting about him.

I wish he would've been around when Elena Kagan was nominated.

The point wasn't actually about Obama, but I guess you're too dense to realize that.

Wouldn't this be what makes him qualified for the 9th Circuit Court?

The dude had just as much trial experience as Obama. He was unanimously confirmed to head the FEC in 2008. He was counsel for the US Senate rules committee and for the US House of Representatives committee on housing administration. He may not have been a good pick in many people's minds. But those credentials don't make the nomination lazy.

Has anyone from Trump’s office explained why this guy was even nominated? I know we joke about “the best people”, but this was particularly laughable.

Every President nominates some duds for judgeships. It happens.

Still that was fricking brutal to watch. I get that you won’t have every procedural detail nailed down, but how can you not answer those questions at least somewhat intelligently?

he was obviously nervous but the fact that this guy couldn't define a motion in limine is fricking pathetic

Trump's had some good appointments, this dunce aside. He knocked it out of the park with Gorsuch.

How is this relevant? Obama wasn't nominated for a lifetime appointment to the bench. Having trial experience isn't something needed to be president (see list of current & previous presidents)

I’m generally anti-Trump, but this shite has very little to do with him. These are bulk appointments for the most part. In many cases the state Senators have more influence on the selection than Trump.

It isn’t a good look, but I guarantee you that Obama, and Bush, and Clinton, so forth and so on all had a few of these.

Can you imagine the look on the hypothetical law clerk’s face when the Article III judge asks him/her “what exactly is a motion in limine?”

This is correct.

There still should be better oversight on these things, and that ultimately goes to the top.

Open to correction but I doubt any of these guys nominated someone who didn't know what a motion in limine is.
