If anything it's less important. SCOTUS is strictly an appellate court, they're not making real-time decisions to sustain or overrule objections. In theory we could even appoint non-lawyers although I don't think that's ever happened. We've definitely appointed people who spent most of their time as either politicians or law professors.

But if you're gonna be a basic district judge, you need to at least have not forgotten all the shite you learned in civ pro and evidence, if you're not a trial lawyer who uses it every day.

Kagan’s seat is more important, but the job requires less civil procedure experience (by a mile) than a trial court judge.

Kagan's Supreme Court nomination was fine. Her appointment as Solicitor General was not.

That I would agree with.

That was this guy who posted this and hot first-gen klan opinions on the rolltide message board.

So remember to scrub your post history well when angling for the Federal judgeship.

Regardless of his history, we should be happy for congressmen to expose incompetence.

You are right.

But you'll get downvoted anyway, because this board would basically eat the peanuts out of Trump's shite at this point.

Posted in a thread after three pages of "this board" pretty much doing nothing but extolling this development with regard to this particular nominee.

Or better yet, stay off message boards and such if you ever want to have a career that in anyway involves politics or politicians.

That was hilariously brutal. Someone who wants to be a federal judge doesn't know what a motion in limine is really made my day.

His job matters because he will be given the power to preside over hugh profile criminal trials AND hand down sentences. He would also oversee a huge docket of civil cases.

It's insane that someone with so little real world experience in actual legal practice would be put up for the bench.

You'd be surprised at how many "trial" lawyers avoid trial.

Never taken a deposition by himself, and only been involved in about 5 total.

After my clerkship, I took, probably, half dozen depositions as lead and argued 3 or 4 motions in court just in the first month. Once I was cleared by the powers that be, I was in court or in deposition fully 12 to 15 hours a week (or more) for the next 10 years.
