D.C. Statehood is most likely dead for this Congress. U.S. Senator Joe Manchin told reporters today he does not support the D.C. statehood bill in the US House and would only consider it as an amendment to the U.S. Constitution

He also told reporters that he does not support the voting rights and anti-gerrymandering bill H.R. 1 but does support the John Lewis Voting Rights Act

Until he remembers that he does support it. Never count on Manchin to do anything except what all the Demeocrats do, and you will never be disappointed.

It is a matter of the payoff being good enough for him to sign off on it.

The Dems haven’t offered him enough yet to be worth it given the ration of shite he will catch as the 50th vote.

Or, hear me out, DC could be reunited with Maryland, but why would anyone be against that?

Manchin is in a position to become one of the heroes of American democracy. I suspect he understands his opportunity....God bless and lead him!

We need more Republicans running as Democrats. DINOs are our best shot.

He also has the opportunity to sell his soul for earthly riches

We shall see what’s more important to him

Anyone believe Sinema from my state will also break with Manchin? Or Kelly? They're getting lots of heat - pardon the pun - down here.

The real issue is how a bill can supersede the constitution

They're going to run out of bribes to send his way, and it's going to get ridiculous

I fully expect a gold statue of him, looking over Charleston, by the end of it.

The fact that it was even voted in is proof that it will happen one day. Dems are really good at eventually forcing their way.

Indeed it is. Sad to turn on the local news networks not named Fox and see the propaganda. They know Trump won my state by a lot. To my recollection only 1 Dem - Clinton in 1996 -has ever won it.
