We had 8 years of Where in the World is Bobby Jindal and as a state, we were worse off for it.

I’ll take a gamble on someone else instead of a Piyush rerun, thanks.

You are an idiot….

You didn’t mention who you thought was a better possibility. Nobody did really.

THIS. Louisiana government is still bloated, but his hiring freeze and consolidation of redundant departments did wonders for this backwards arse state. I don't know a single civil servant that likes Jindal, which improves his standing in my mind.

People mistaking this as a thread lauding Jindal miss the point.

ETA, I wasn’t talking to you as much as most everyone else.

Point is, he was pretty awful, but the other possibilities right now are downright horrid. It’s a disaster.

I hate what Jindal was, but recognize what he could have and should have been. Ron DeSantis should look to Jindal as what not to do when you are the presumptive future of the Republican party.

I would tell you there were very few things conservatives and progressives back then would agree on but the fact that Jindal was terrible for the state and university was one of them.

Jindal was a smart guy who wasn’t smart enough to not get hoodwinked by stupid people.

I think you've been reading Bobby's press releases and not looking at what he really did.

He played shell games with money, raided trust funds, and moved assets to make it "look Like" he balanced the budget.

I know first hand he moved staff from the governor's payroll to other state agencies and then put out a press release that he had "reduced the governor's staff" - when in fact no staff was reduced - he just forced them onto another state agencies payroll.

The IT consolidation - while a good idea - has only created a new behemoth state agency that isn't really beholden to the individual agencies it is supposed to service.

First, this is something BigJim, if he's around, is much more qualified to answer. However, just my quick looking on the DOA website for the FY State Budgets from FY '08-09 budget to '15-16 budget, there's just simply more a direct between available Federal Funds and Total Appropriated/Enacted budget than Jindal's Administration actually shrinking the state portion of the budget.

In Billions of Dollars, the first number is Federal Funds, second total budget:

14.9; 29.7
14.7; 28.9
11.5; 25.4
11.1; 25.3
11.3; 25.6
10.3; 25.4
10.0; 25.5
9.9; 25.0

The only people who didn’t like Jindal were the ones milking the clock at a state agency for 20 plus years or getting a fat kickback in the form of some contract.

And that is definitely 100% false.

Personally, I liked Jindal himself as a person (or wanted to), but I believe his tight inner-circle is what caused the most harm to his tenue and ability to truly govern. The convinced him to govern merely in a manner of trying to be able to check off (or have the appearance of checking off) boxes to make him desirable to be the 2016 GOP Presidential nominee. We all know how that played out.

I think he sucked arse...he didn't do anything for me and mine and he certainly did not leave the state better off for his being at it's head.

You don't get to come in and initially make some improvements and then blow off the last YEARS in office and claim a job well done.

*I don't work for the state or in any way benefit from government contracts so FU.

The dumbest line ever conceived of by people without a salient point of their own to make...

Unfortunately, while Jindal was a deplorable governor, I have very little hope that any of those running will be much better

Of the names being thrown around as possible candidates for next year, the following I believe COULD BE better Governors for Louisiana than Bobby Jindal was:

John Schroder
Garrett Graves
Sharon Hewitt

I left out Kennedy, because he ain't leaving Washington D.C. now.

Now sure, any of those above three could walk into office and things happen where they end up being no better, or even worse, than Jindal's tenure overall, and I'm giving my opinion based on what I think the above could be vs. what we already experienced the Jindal Administration to have been.

Jindal crushed the soul of every conservative in this state.

He sold us all out.

I think it's worse to have potential and piss it away, then to have no potential at all.

Jindal messed this state up more than most democrats could ever hope to. He belongs in his home away from any position of power other than being able to tell his kids to be careful when they leave the house.

Just curious - could he even run? I know you can't technically serve more than 2 consecutively, and he could go the EWE route and sit out one term. But did they close that loophole?

Richard Nelson is better than anyone, including, Jindal.

If engaged people actually want to make the state better, look at what he's for.

Tort reform (plaintiffs bar is going to work against him)
School choice (teachers union won't support him)
Eliminate state income tax (everyone should support this, but big spend everyone will oppose)
Against mandates and lockdowns
In favor of economic development using the blueprints of Florida and Texas
