I am personal friends with a former president of the American Academy of Emergency Physicians. He is a great guy with a brilliant mind however, he thinks he knows everything about all medicine and POLITICS. If it was up to him, we would have been in a total lockdown without end until Covid 19 was completely eradicated. His oath of Do No Harm over rides reality.

I don’t fault any physician for what they say regarding this pandemic but, you just can’t take what they say as gospel because they are conflicted.

She's a moron.
7 in 100 party goers will die!

She should lose her license for blatant fear mongering.

Should be considered malpractice.

At first I read that as 'Avengo' and thought 'sounds like one of those Mexican bandits in a cheap movie.'

Negative.
Virologists may coincidently be medical doctors, but clinical medical experts overseeing the diagnosis, management and prevention of infection are referred to as ... wait4it ... Infectious Disease Specialists.

ETA My original point stands. She's neither an epidemiologist or a virologist. We might as well be listening to a nurse on this matter as she has no authority on this subject.
I suspected that was where you were headed. It's why I corrected you originally.

Comparing an ED physician's background in assessing viral infection during a pandemic with that of a nurse is ignorant. Aside from the 7 extra years of education involved, a component of an ED doc's post-grad training directly deals with pandemic and viral response.

ED is 'ackchyually' among the fields in medicine best equipped to address the subject.

I’m glad you started this thread... I tried recently to do the same. And another poster pointed out her “white privilege” comments. She’s a political loon on whom Latoya is basing her decisions off of. The buck stops with Latoya, but we need to ship Avegno off with her

Thanks for playing and further proving my point. She is not an infectious disease expert either. She is still an Emergency Medicine "expert," not one who is an expert concerning viruses.

You must be one of those doctors discussed earlier in the thread. You know, the kind who isn't too smart but have MD behind their name.

ETA ER docs will admit a patient and then turn them over to an infectious disease doctor for further care. I've been there before and I'm very aware of this field but thanks for trying to educate me on it

Jennifer Avegno isn't a virologist I've been to some pretty stupid doctors in my life. Just because you have MD behind your name, doesn't mean you know what you're talking about.

He didn't mean that Klarvin.

This is called Appeal to Authority and is a logical fallacy.

Either a person is correct or incorrect on an issue. It really does not matter beyond that.

I have no idea who this person is or what she said that bothers you. But, I would never point to the degree / specialty as the reason to ignore.

Avegno is one of the worst human beings in the world. I fricking despise her.

Her degree pre-Med School is in Sociology or some such nonsense and she was given the job to champion "social justice in medicine in the community."

She is obviously way out of her depth in a pandemic.

If she said "7 in 100 party goers will die," you're right, she is a moron.

Assuming partygoers to be young adults, and assuming an age-specific CFR of 0.08% along with an almost impossible infection rate of 25%, the number of deaths would more closely approximate 7 in ~35,000.

But I tend to think its highest stress in the ER for those doctors.

How does that have anything in the world to do with knowing how and why an virus is transmitted?

Important? sure, but has nothing to do with a virus.

It was in regards to I believe Newman kids having parties.

Something to the effect of
"If you have a 100 person party. Look around and select 7 people there to die".

Younger group makes her statement dumber still. Frankly, it means she was lying. No MD is that stupid.
