Help me figure this out. She is a communist mouthpiece. She is paraded around as an expert on a situation concerning a virus? Why do citizens listen to her?

She's an ER doc. No offense to ER docs but they are trained to stabilize a patient and get them to another doctor if further care is needed.

Bottom line, this woman isn't staying in her lane

To be fair that is the most important part of emergency. Stabilizing the patient. That said, she looks like a crazy liberal so that's probably why she does what she does

She is telling them what they want to hear

Never said it wasn't important.

I don't need a virologist when I show up to the ER with a heart attack. Likewise I don't need an ER doc's opinion during a viral pandemic.

That's OK, Latoya isn't a competent person either so it figures.

Fair. But I tend to think its highest stress in the ER for those doctors.

I'm also not a doctor

The thrust of the OP is that she has no business advocating policy on treatment of viral infection once past the ED.

I did not see any denigration of her role, or role of ED docs, in treatment of patients.

I've been to some pretty stupid doctors in my life. Just because you have MD behind your name, doesn't mean you know what you're talking about.

She’s using the liberal playbook like Lebron. All you have to do is show that “you care” or have “good intentions” and you elevate to the status of expert.

I would still throw it in her if I wasn't married. Even with that lazy eyelid thing she has going.

Avegno is feeding Latoya and JBE just what they need to keep you under their thumb.

Rise up, sheep!

Ed Zachary ....

Just like I don't need political advice from a Holly wood celebrity, ... just like I don't need social advice from some celebrity athlete ....

"If you are white and privileged, COVID is still coming for you, and to act irresponsibly because you think that you might be safe is unconscionable during a pandemic," she said.

Never heard of her.

Silly posit. First off, epidemiologist is the term you may have been looking for. Unless one is addressing lab vs natural origin of CV19, or highly technical particulars of antibody vulnerability, a virologist offers little that an ED doc doesn't. In fact, in clinical terms a virologist offers less.

That said, "lanes" or not, people can advise badly despite education and expertise. Zeke Emanuel being a prime example. Sounds like this woman may fall into that category.

Know how I know you don't really know? You said you never heard of her but here you are with the facts. Do a simple web search first and you won't look so damn dumb

"Virologists are medical doctors that oversee the diagnosis, management and prevention of infection. They're also scientists, who may drive research on various aspects of viruses. A virologist may be both a scientist and a physician."

ETA My original point stands. She's neither an epidemiologist or a virologist. We might as well be listening to a nurse on this matter as she has no authority on this subject.
