Jeff Landry transition committee calls for phasing out corporate and personal income taxes

The LAST thing I want is for Louisiana politicians to start looking at other areas I can be taxed in order to compensate for losing state income tax revenue. frick this plan. If they eliminate the state income tax, 70% of us WILL eventually pay more than we’re paying now.

frick that. When you can explain to me what the state did to earn a portion of the paycheck that I worked for, then we can talk about an income tax.

Hopefully the Landry Administration does this hand in hand with budget reform that involves de-centralization of revenue and power in Baton Rouge, rather than just the shell game the Jindal Administration tried for national attention.
Eliminate state income taxes, then also shift funding of public schools, parish roads, police departments, etc more onto the local governments. Instead of a model where three to six percent of someone's income is sent to Baton Rouge in the form of a state income tax, keep tax dollars local with local property taxes to fund those municipal and parish needs.
This keep taxes and funding responsibilities more local would mean that Louisiana would have to stop having the highest property tax exemption in the country. Prepare for there to be blood-gurgling screams if/when that gets proposed.

ABSOLUTELY!
It’s quite the conundrum when you see people bitching about paying taxes but when the government FINALLY wants to do something about it people start to bitch even more about the possibility of NOT having to pay taxes!
They’re either sheep and they don’t know it or they’re brainwashed into thinking they’ll get screwed if they don’t have to pay taxes, or they’re just brainwashed sheep.

Yes the Louisiana DOTD and Dept of Education are both known as a bastions of excellent work product and efficiency. And neither of them get money from other sources such as gas taxes, fees from vehicle registrations and property tax millages.

One of the many reasons I live in FL is we have no state income tax - and no sales tax on groceries and prescription drugs - our real estate taxes are reasonable - and we have better roads than LA and the public school system is at least as good and maybe better - so it can be done - the only requirement is a semi-responsible state government - and that is on you the citizens to elect.

I've lived in no income tax Texas all my life. Either way they'll get their money.
Increased property taxes, sales taxes, increased fees and permits for this and that.. some will be state and some will be local.
But it's easier to bitch about one area of taxation and maybe get it lowered than have it all coming from one source. And I can choose what I buy and pay sales taxes on.
And I like skipping the state section in tax software.
