This was all set up as a spectacle to trap Smith in a perjury trap, because their larger point (that he was in Atlanta that day) was weak.

This is just psychotic. There is nothing in the text that relates to a men's game or the game being at night.
PLUS, it's an easily disproven lie. There was a full slate of NBA games and NCAA Men's game that night.
It's like a 12 year old trying to retroactively justify a lie. "Turns out Smith went to a WOMEN'S game that night. I just assumed that he went to a Men's game...and since the only one of those was the Atlanta game, you can see how I made a mistake.

And? The substance is whether he was colluding with Fanni Willis. The Senator screwed up, but none of that negates or proves he did in fact collude. Isn’t that the important part? The Hank i remember would have connected those dots.
