I've criticized the U.S. Healthcare system for being too expensive

But I'm taking a look around and most of these Euro countries seem to have much higher death rates

Italy
Spain
Germany
Belgium
France
Switzerland
UK

I haven't gone through all of them and of course the final outcomes are unknown but it does appear that we have a much better capacity to deal with an issue like this than any of those countries at this point.

Funny how not nationalizing your healthcare works that way

In fairness, there are a lot of differences.

- Smoking rates
- ratio of old to young
- proximity and social interaction

One thign that makes me curious: I wonder if the European 'healthy' lifestyle of biking, being in more crowded cities with higher rates of public transit use, less time in cars, less spacious homes, contributes significantly to virus spread.

We might end up not seeing much transmission because Americans are more independent and use less public transit.

Good
Fast(available)
Cheap

Pick two.....and, if you try to pick 3, you just might end up with 1.

Everywhere else in the world has tried to pick 3...…….and ended up with Cheap

We picked 2.

And then remember how the U.S. has paid for 100% of their national security for 70 years!!!!

The US military is the only reason Europe was able to regain their affluence after WW2.

The US is the reason communist shite countries have access to cheap drugs as the American people subsidize it.

People have grown way too comfortable with the US holding up the world.

Just look at our budgets, money going all over the place on earth on top of the 24/7/365 military presence to secure trade routes between countries who despise each other.

I do think we could still make some improvements to cost

Charging people 300 dollars for a bag of saline and shite like that is what's absurd

Or the surging price of insulin which has been around forever

So I still have my criticisms but we do seem better equipped to handle a crisis

Yep socialized medicine seems great when you are young and healthy but for the older population it’s care rationing. Those countries won’t dump endless funds into keeping geriatrics alive.

Healthcare is a right.

Right up until the point you are deemed 'non-essential'.

You are likely correct that the higher rate of compact living can't be helping.

Suburbs for the win!!!

Something I used to tell my clients all the time. Do you want us to do it fast, cheap or right?

I don't disagree but I'll take our own system over any other. Get what you pay for so to speak

Not really the fault of the healthcare system

That's on the citizenry

But impossible to avoid.

Think of it this way.

Imagine being a car dealer...…..only, while you didn't have to provide a car to every schmo, you DID have to provide cars to people who desperately needed one, even if they couldn't afford it.

How much are your cars going to sell for to the people that CAN buy them?

Probably a poor analogy because the broke MF is the one that's going to over pay for it
