That's the conservative stance

I agree. But that's not the reality we live in.

Can I extend that to 100 other things the government requires?

Don't work there if you need a handicap bathroom.

Don't work there if you don't like breathing paint fumes.

Don't work there if you don't want to wear safety gear.

Are you a progressive? Because thats how they argue. I dont think you are, but they appear to be rubbing off on yall

"You cant own a nuclear weapon therefore the 2a isnt a right"
"Government funds fire and police, they are socialist!"

Dont excuse government dysfunction by pointing out other government dysfunction.

If it wasn’t their place…. How did they get it done?

This is just an example of you get what you vote for.

This is a rhetorical difference that the left learned 70 years ago that the right still plays semantics with.

What’s the morality? Let’s cross the aisle. Build a coalition. I’m libertarian

The reality is…. might makes right.

Trump realized this. That’s why he won.

Yeah, but nobody wants to sit somewhere and eat while people are smoking. And I'm a smoker. It's inconsiderate.

No.
Your individual morality makes "right."

There is no Federal law banning smoking in public places.

Of course I'm not. But all the bullshite the government makes me do at my business, a smoking ban is one of the least egregious. I was asking the OP why that was his "bridge too far"

If we are getting rid of laws, let's start with the ADA and zoning. Smoking bans are way down my list.

I think its a pretty massive leap into restricting the rights of business/property owners.

Just because they already do to some extent doesnt excuse more of the same.

This is the Nanny State. Govt thinks it knows better than you so it restricts rights.

That’s doing a great job of keeping perverts out of women’s restrooms.

Then market forces would have resolved the issue

Fathers and husbands used to do that before America became one collective pussy.

Say not to progressive authoritarians. They passed prohibition too. Progressivism has always been the work of nosy, gossipy women who pretend they are protecting you because they think youre too dumb to decide for yourself.

Dont let them do this to you.

It was debated hotly at the time. I do think it marked new territory, but I did and still do think that it was appropriate.

I think people became aware that there are different levels of private spaces.

You personal house/room, your car, your common rooms in a shared house, a private club space for groups, a privately owned restaurant or business that is open to the general public, a privately owned outdoor space open for the general public that is viewable by outsiders, a public space indoors, a public place outdoors.

These all have different expectations of privacy and also of personal freedom.

The people, as represented by legislative branches, decided they wanted smoke free air in spaces that are open to the general public. That seems reasonable to me, and it doesn’t indicate a general erosion of rights that many feared.

Could it be the way the feds got seat belt and helmet laws? If the state didn’t kneel and pass these laws, they didn’t get highway grants. It wasn’t because they “loved everyone” or they cared about the people’s safety. Frick no. We have those laws for fed money

I can agree with some of your points and disagree with others, but I appreciate the quality of your reply

Sure. I hear ya. On this one topic, doesn't sound so bad.....
But what about killing innocent unborn babies, allowing teens to cut off their dicks due to mental illness, allowing 30 million illegals into our nation, and the list goes on......
How can you possibly convince yourself your on the correct side?

No shite. I can promise you aren’t more free market than I am.

I think they should be able to sell heroin at Circle K.

That wasn’t the point of my post.

I’m in on principle, but I can’t endplay a good outcome on the results.
