The 4 biggest items in the federal budget are social security, Medicare, defense, and debt servicing. Unless we significantly cut some of that, everything else is just rounding errors for the most part. We can't balance the budget just by cutting discretionary spending.

"This is just a drop in the bucket! Don't do it!"

Really bad logic.

They will cut a whole lot just by eliminating fraud in SS, Medicare, and defense spending. This is the first step toward fixing things. Fix the fraud first, then move on to the harder stuff.

Per Grok “based on available data, Trump's administration spent $710 billion from January 21 to February 20, 2025, compared to $630 billion for the same period in 2024 under Biden, indicating higher spending in the first quarter of his term.”

I hope this changes and we don’t keep increasing spending.

The recently passed CR allowed for Bidens federal spending budget to continue until a new budget is comprised and voted on. The federal governments new fiscal year begins in September. The challenge for Republicans to get a new budget passed that addresses much of the waste what DOGE has identified will be time.
The Dems will hold these proposed spending bills up in their respective committees as much as possible, as well as taking the maximum alloted time for every step of the process.

This was the main reason why Republicans and Trump wanted to pass the CR and why the Dems wanted a government shut down, to prolong the process. Passing the CR and avoiding the government shutdown allow the House and the Senate to begin preparing for the new budget.

It will be a challenge simply due to time restraints.
Starting around 28 minutes, Sen Mullin explains the steps and timing involved in getting a budget together and passed. Regardless of ur opinion about Mullin, his explanation of the process helps one to understand the challenges.

His trips to the Super Bowl, Daytona 500, and his golf course probably have already exceeded what Biden spent.

Kamala received over 1 billion dollars in donations in same time span Trump received 388 million dollars. Just face it, Americans want MAGA.

You understand that this (at least through March 15) was from the CR passed under Biden, right?

The larger point is the post-March 15 CR maintains these levels.

1) that's what a CR is - which is so fricking infuriating (every CR since 2009 has included the almost $800 billion of "stimulus")

2) if its the same, how is Trump allegedly spending more?

3) is the money actually going out the door? A lot of contracts/spending has been halted/frozen.

Fun fact:

It costs money to fix idiots fraud and mistakes!

It cost money to take a hatchet to the DC machine & push those assholes into retirement!

And now, let’s talk about the long term savings we have cut.

And let’s talk about the “re-balancing of trade deals” and the long term effects of bringing manufacturing back to the USA.

Some people are so simple minded and don’t realize that what this Admin is doing takes time to see the results.

It’s a severe balancing act because we are on the verge of total financial collapse!

I would assume when Biden first got in some things from when Trump was president were still being paid for.

Likewise with Trump.

Inflation reduction act didn't just stop because Biden dropped out of the race.

I imagine they have baked-in increases from Biden's term so Q1 2025 will be more than Q1 2024, even if we locked in the latest spending levels of Biden (as they increased with each CR)

They're printing/borrowing the money and, apparently, just having that money sitting in treasury accounts, pending the legal determination of spending.

That creates a negative economic reality, but that's another discussion.

He didnt do anything with it.

In fact, he just passed the buck with the CR.
