Is this site legit to track the Coronavirus numbers? Worldometers.info

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/
This site has higher numbers than I’ve seen elsewhere, though not hugely different.
It updates quite often. Currently shows 1,747 cases with 41 deaths in the US.
Was curious if anyone has used this site before.

I don't see any obvious issues with it
I've seen it before

Thanks. I’ve never seen it before so didn’t know if it was reliable at all.

The only issue I have with the site is the depiction of the growth curves
And, the issue isn't really with the curves. It's with the fact that most people see a curve like that and don't actually understand it. So, it appears terrifying.

I noticed that too. You can play with the graphs a bit, but they can look super alarming if you don’t understand what your looking at.

Yeah.
And, it's not really a knock on the site.
But, I don't think most people understand that an exponential growth curve doesn't have to just keep it's upward swing. If it did, then regardless of growth rate, eventually, everyone dies if the rate is above 1.0.
There's an inflection point(s curve) and where THAT occurs is the important thing to know or, if you don't know, be aware of.

Those overall numbers look right. There was a spike today in new cases, primarily out of New York State - they are in striking distance of Washington.
Also, I pretty much discount Washington State in calculating a real-time CFR from the snapshot of numbers.
The rest of the nation is under a 1% (right now) if you do that - ~10 deaths to 1300 or so cases (outside WA). Those numbers will continue to rise, but everyone fully expects the death rate to flatten out. How low it goes, ultimately? We will have to see.
The economic damage we face is unprecedented - I don't think we closed this much for this long after 9/11. Probably not since WWII have we diverted this many resources from direct economic activity to a national priority.

After reading their “about” page the site looks legit. Numbers look legit.
Good reference.

I actually read an article today that a lot of those links to the John Hopkins sites aren’t secure and have malware on them. Like the one you just posted. It isn’t the same site as the original John Hopkins map. It may be the same map but on a different unsecured site.

Also got a DoD notam stating the same, that those websites have malware, or let’s call them a virus. Hehe trying to learn about a virus and your computer gets a virus

I’m sure this is soooooooo accurate. Some random site putting up dumb random numbers that they just magically pulled out of their arse.
I’m in the web design business... there’s no fricking way in hell that they could easily pull all of this data (even with an API) and easily put up these numbers and keep it updated on a website. It’s not possible to keep accurate

Yes. I've linked this site multiple times.
I've also cross referenced it to numbers on other sites and it seems accurate.

It's not JUST the incompetence. It's the sheer scale of the incompetence.

FYI China quit reporting numbers

The numbers are simply gonna be BS. They only delineate known cases. There are so many folks with mild to no symptoms, that they aren't even going to the Dr. And very much unlike the Spanish flu, you instantly knew if you had that
Within 6 days of 1st detection of Spanish flu there were over 6,000 cases in just one Army camp. There aren't 6,000 cases in all 50 states after 2 months of COVID19
With that in mind the infection rate will spike, but the mortality rate will plummet to flulike levels, when all is said and done

I know the numbers aren’t accurate an representation for what’s on the ground. I was asking if it was accurate for what has been reported.

That site has a lot of info.
Interesting that in the US there are 1 deaths each in SD, GA, NJ. 2 deaths in FL.
The rest are all CA (4) where the quarantined flights and cruise ships from Asia landed and WA (31) where a poorly run nursing home with a history of violations let it run rampant for several weeks.
5 total deaths outside of two outlier states.
