It is astounding that a major US city has sunk this low. It seems to be almost "third world". Most of us can see the problem, as it seems to have common elements with other major, troubled US cities. To come outright and state the obvious would probably bring the banhammer down on us, though. Sigh... News link: LINK

I would assume that like most city dwellers, their hope is the suburbs.

I learned all I needed to learn about Baltimore when I saw people protesting about racism, inequality, and oppression while wearing Abercrombie & Fitch shirts, True Religion jeans, and Jordans...

...while jumping up and down on police cars cursing capitalism and filming with their iPhones

The answer is no and the future for cities similarly situated to Baltimore is grim. We all know what the problem is.

Not as long as they keep voting Dems to run it.

Uh, liberal, progressive, and democratic leadership showing all major cities the way. Viva Bernie! Viva AOC! Viva the Muslim gal from Minnesota! Yes!

The incident occurred about six weeks after Harrison was sworn-in as commissioner. During his swearing-in ceremony on March 12, the former leader of the New Orleans police force and ordained minister, promised to make Baltimore safer and lead the department through sweeping reforms- but the task is proving to be a herculean one and residents say they're losing hope.

Best of luck to the citizens of Baltimore, but what in this man’s track record have them thinking he’s the right person to fix this?

NOLA murder rate only decreased because we brought back front line military medical practices learned and practiced in Iraq and Afghanistan to stop people from dying.

It’s a city run by blacks for blacks only. Leave them alone.

Mike was brought in to implement the consent decree. If by implementing it, it fixes some of these problems, so be it.

He has his work cut out for him.

Meh.

However the only time I've ever gotten my car broken into, was in Baltimore... and it was a rental car in the valet parking section of a hotel!!

"The Wire" is a excellent illustration of the American inner city.

Then there's this op-ed in the Baltimore Sun:
quote:

So many of you tell me that you no longer go to the city. Often, I sense a hint of pride in your voice, as if you have managed to kick a bad habit. It may seem irresponsible to ask people to frequent the City That Reads Healthy Holly given its deeply regrettable state of affairs.

Your retort to me might very well be, “If I go to the city, I’m likely to end up at Shock Trauma.”

“No place better,” I might respond, “They really know what they’re doing — world class.”
Not the most convincing sales pitch to get the white suburbanites to spend more time downtown. But at least it's honest.

It's really gone downhill since they fired Bunny Colvin.

The real problem in Baltimore is obviously white supremacy.

We need states to start reasserting their power. State citizenship would be a good start. People from failed cities and states should have to stay in them not move their shitty ideas elsewhere.

As far as the inner city of Baltimore goes, I don't think there are any good people there. Anyone from there that was has left long ago.
