Our national parks have always been cared after by volunteers from conservation organizations such as The Sierra Club, Friends of Acadia, the Yosemite Conservancy, National Parks Conservation Association, Yellowstone Forever, The Conservation Fund, etc.

Being able to disappear into the mountains for a couple weeks a year is imperative to my mental health.
You don't need 12 DEI hires surrounding you while you hike to accomplish that. Ergo disappearing.

You think only diversity, equity and inclusion hires are being fired? lol.

Except instead of paying people to do a job, we’re going to pay them to not do a job via unemployment and severances. And this is how we MAGA!

Have only seen a couple posts about this and they appear to be written by the same person with no indication the employees are probationary.
If the conservation groups care so much, then raise private money to support our parks. Get some of that college endowment money and parter with universities.
Love our national parks but cuts should impact everyone. There is waste everywhere.

“The department determined that you have failed to demonstrate fitness or qualifications for continued employment because your subject matter knowledge, skills and abilities do not meet the department’s current needs,” read the email, which was sent to Ms. Dhue while she was in the air. (She later obtained a printed copy of the email from her boss.)
They leave out that most are young or probationary.

. A lot of these probationary hires were probably Biden DEI hires anyway.
“Probably” is doing all the work in this sentence.
My sister recently retired after 35 years with the National Park Service. She says the cuts are hitting capable, dedicated employees and are being executed terribly.
She said a great myth about working for the federal government is that agencies thrive under Democratic administrations and suffer under Republican administrations. The opposite is often true. As a result, she has always said the number of federal employees who vote Republican is way higher than most people realize.
Doing something difficult and necessary for a noble purpose is one thing. Doing it like a freaking idiot is something else entirely.

Folks...it's a 5% reduction in force.
Nothing is closing down for this.
Also,
The number is still up by 3000 from 2020
Also, they will still be hiring 5000 seasonal employees.
This is not the mountain you think it is.

Maybe she will work her was back to a job.
If she is really as good as claimed, maybe she will be hired back.
With federal employees, you either have to fire everyone or no one due to "seniority" rules. Fire them all, then hire back the ones you want to keep.

Probably not but if it's a last hired-first fired thing the chances are better than not. Biden era bullshite and all that.

It is very difficult to legally fire federal employees who are not on probation. That is why the probationary employees are getting shitcanned first

It seems like the job would be seasonal with the states doing most of the hiring. I see keeping a couple on the federal side to oversee fire control but for the most part they just seem nonessential.

That an appalling idea. Disgusting. Our national parks are spectacular.
