Had three friends fired in Alaska on Friday. One with 20 years and the others with 7-10. All are very skilled and dedicated workers and were the most experienced boat operators in the Park. Anytime there was a distress call, it was one of these three that would respond. I truly hope this was just a mistake and they are reinstated.

EDIT It is not just new people that were released. These three had received a promotion over the past year which is why a new 1 year probation period started for them.

There's so much trail upkeep to do in the PNW/ Idaho. thousands and thousands of miles in the Olympics that are desolate, mountain tops with no cell service. The work I've seen them do is no joke. Lots of trail work in Idaho is done by help from the public, adv motorcycle and side by side riders with chainsaws, and they still have a hard time keeping up. I have a hard time hiking 20 miles through scree, brush, mtns with just my camping gear. Carrying a chainsaw out there would be brutal. Respect to those park rangers who do that every day.

Blame fedgov bureaucracy for making it impossible to fire bad employees. Now the only way to cut payroll is to use the probation loophole.

The best employees will be hired back. The " i gots my gobment job so im set for life now" employees will be at starbucks.

One of my hobbies is filling a grocery bag with trash I find on the trails. Including the trash that the NFS guys have driven around 20 times while seemingly glued to the seats of their sxs.

Kind of hard to hire them back when there is a hiring freeze.

Imo, if a trail isn't used enough to self maintain or have enough interest to be maintained by volunteers, we should just let nature reclaim it. If there's ever enough interest in opening it back up, it will be there, waiting.

Unfortunately, the cuts here seem to be a lot of field staff and not enough Bureaucracy.

This sounds about right. So they'll limit the hours of the parks, wont get kept up as much, close certain parks or part of parks because of the cuts to the people actually needed, to keep some fat cats employed behind a desk that dont actually do anything.

Changes will need to be made at the top of all these federal agencies to get things running properly again. The bureaucracies will be tough to break but necessary.

What top level "source" has ever said that Trump or his administration plans on selling off most of the National Parks? I've heard they were looking at drilling in Alaska, or exploring federal lands (not specifically national parks). Where does this hyperbole crap come from?

We've been to many NP's over the last few years. The parks seem overrun with Park Rangers in many places.

How can a trail self maintain when it's getting multiple feet of snow, monster trees falling and is 50 miles from a main road? They're still getting used, but regular folk aren't carrying gear thats able to chop those trees up, that far out.

Who was choosing what people were let go?

It's not like Trump is saying "hey fire Joe Forest over there."

I'm sure things will get sorted out.

Rule was applied uniformly across non-DOD government agencies. Not an expert, but my understanding unless they were a veteran or some type of public safety they were let go. I understand there was a little wiggle room with veterans and public safety.

FALSE. The story of the male National Parks guy was made up. He quit on his own back in 2021.

Democrats are slinging shite knowing their brain dead followers will shite post it and comment about how bad it is and how shitty it makes them feel.

Democrats are just idiots
