He never intended to get stuck in Russia, that was a layover between flights and he was prevented from boarding his next one and got stuck. Russia was the last place he wanted to be (except maybe a CIA prison).
He could have flown direct to Ecuador from Hong Kong. He went through Russia because that was where he wanted to be. Ask yourself why he would go through Russia when he much more easily could have gone direct from Hong Kong.

Is Snowden still a traitor? Or have we warmed up to the idea he was right?

There is a weird kind of third option that he is actually a CIA operative meant to make the NSA look bad with all of their big brother gear.
This right here. The CIA was jealous of the NSA's capabilities and tried to have them taken down, imo. Snowden set the stage for the current war being waged behind the scenes between the intelligence agencies. And considering the CIA is the clear cut bad guy everyone damn well knows they are, Snowden is a traitor.

Violating the secrecy agreements he voluntarily signed makes him a traitor.
And why were there secrecy agreements he had to sign prior to his employment with the NSA??
A traitor to whom? Certainly not his country.

He was a contractor, not an employee.

I'm sorry but you are incorrect. Violating the Espionage Act, which he willingly did, makes him guilty of treason by law. He will tell you the same thing.

The Espionage Act is a vile piece of legislation used to prosecute anti-war activists in World War I and Daniel Ellsberg for exposing the fraudulent history of the war in Vietnam. It stands opposite of everything America stands for. Being called a traitor to this evil government should be worn as a badge of honor.

Makes him guilty of violating the espionage act (and probably a shite load of other laws
Doesn’t make him a traitor. Again he didn’t sell these secrets out of spite to harm the country or to enrich himself.

This is the correct answer.

The CIA has more big brother gear than the NSA, at least since about 2006. The functions most people associate with the NSA because of movies has actually been done by the NRO and NGA for a very long time.

Good ole alphabet soup agencies.

Can't make up my mind.
Mixed judgement....read his book.....saw him on Rogan......I've read some criticism that questions some of his timeline.
I mean he broke the law but he certainly exposed some shite that needed to be exposed.
I love how he points out that when the government is found to be breaking the law, they don't stop the behavior, they just change the law to accommodate the lawbreaking in sneaky ways with altruistic sounding laws.

The funny part is that the government considered him trader yet they canceled the metadata program right after his revelations became public.

He was the canary in the coal mine.

Alerting us to the unwarranted surveillance of American citizens is not treason. Treason is what Bowe Bergdahl did and he is a free man. That’s the real disgrace.

He was never a traitor. He gave us a glimpse into how fricked up our government is. Our permanent government lied to us all, they spy on us all.
The election of trump gave us another glimpse at how fricked up our government is. Top brass in the NSA, CIA, DOJ and FBI worked hand in hand in an attempt to oust a sitting president, and imprison him. Just because he beat hillbitch, their previously selected potus.

Former CIA in the NSA to leak NSA's capabilities.
Helped the CIA stay more relevant in "hacking" therefore got to keep the $$$ coming in.

Traitor trying to damage to few good guys left in the intelligence community.
Posted on 7/13/20 at 8:57 pm to theunknownknight
Well the government surely wants us to believe he was a traitor. The government wouldn’t lie, would they?
