Is Russia a Natural Enemy of the USA?

The Communist USSR was a natural enemy of ours. I'm willing to learn, but, FROM WHAT'S AVAILABLE TO ME, I see modern day Russia more as an international financial competitor with the US rather than a natural enemy.
Of course, the invasion of Ukraine is tragic and troubling. Was it justified? Probably not, but I think a stronger argument for defense of Russia can be made for their invasion than the US could muster for invading Iraq as a matter of national defense.
Curious what PoliBoard thinks. Upvote for Russia being a natural enemy of the United States. Downvote for no.

Regardless of whether or not it's a "natural enemy," Russia is CERTAINLY not this.

CHYNA
Russia aligns more with Conservatism, although there are parts some may not agree with. Tucker’s interview with Putin should be required viewing prior to anyone discussing this issue on TV

Russia sees the US and Europe as enemies. You only need to catch a small amount of Russian state tv for this to be clear.

Agreed, this isn't the cold war - they are a financial competitor [and should possibly be an ally] to the US. We share more in common with them than Middle Eastern and Asian countries.
NATO expansion pushed Putin in the direction we've ended up today and I'm no Putin supporter.

Maybe too loose language on my part. I just meant that in the international marketplace we compete in selling "our" wares: oil and gas, armaments, etc.
So, from that perspective Russia is no more an adversary than is Canada.

To the extent you're arguing Russia isn't a true economic threat to the US - I agree.
I do think they're a genuine competitor for influence in regions of the world we're rightly/wrongly concerned with.
Personally, I don't think Russia is a "natural" enemy post-Communism and to the extent we're enemies, both sides bear responsibility (some justified, some not) for that status. I also don't think we're natural friends, and that even if the fingers in the eye and missteps were avoided, there would be some contention/animosity that would persist.

Russia is trying to compete with us on the geopolitical front and is not a "partner" like UK/EU. but China is more of a geopolitical threat then russia

I haven’t met a Russian I didn’t like, even when I visited their country everyone was eerily similar to Americans like the other side of the same coin.

Their entire economy , pre war , was smaller than Texas. They are not even a geopolitical competitor anymore. Their power likes in their nuclear weapons.
On the whole we should draw them closer. The Russian people deserve our respect.

It's a construct of the MiC.

Isn't that understandable? We are literally providing arms to kill Russians. Obviously, from Washington's perspective, those are righteous kills.

Russia would destroy the US without a second thought. These Russian sympathizers on here are mind-blowing.

Russia has nothing to do with Conservatism. The word you were looking for was Traditionalism . In this way, by acknowledging human nature, they are far ahead of us. In that they don’t truly respect Individual Liberty and The Rule of Law, they are far behind us.

This isn’t a recent phenomenon. In fact, Ukraine wanting to join Europe economically is the reason behind the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Putin doesn’t want Ukraine to integrate into Europe. He thinks Ukraine belongs to Russia.

If they start acting like they want to join modernity, this could work.

Russia is much smarter than you. Without the US chinee will take over the entire pacific rim gaining power and wealth beyond anything mother Russia could ever do. And that's bad for her. See. Russia smart. You poster child for the brainless.

Not a natural enemy. Just depends on their current political stance at the time. Now with Putin in charge? Yes.

Unfortunately their shitty tyrannical leadership operates under 20th century premises that we all hoped belonged to history.
