He won’t do it. If he starts using nukes then that could pull Europe into the war.

He should learn from history. The Soviet Union tried to hid the fact that there had been an accident at Chernobyl. They hid it for days. Finally a sensor in Finland, Sweden, or some country in that region of Europe started picking up radiation in the atmosphere. The Chernobyl plant was leaking radiation and it was spreading all over Europe. The radiation even made it to the Soviet Union. If Putin wants to use nukes then he should at least be aware that radiation and nuclear fallout does not recognize borders. Once that stuff makes in into the winds in the upper atmosphere those winds can carry that stuff anywhere including Mother Russia.

I think it’s pretty rational: escalate to deescalate. The only competitive advantage Russia has is nukes and a tactical nuke in the right spot would make everyone come to the table and the shock would paralyze anyone from retaliating despite the tough talk.
