None of them will do much of anything that betters this state except passing some social issue bullshite.

Also, the letter next to a candidates name is so fricking irrelevant these days. We’ve seen people jump parties & ideologies when it’s convenient for them. I wish we could abolish the whole fricking party system. Vote for the candidate that most aligns with your views, period the end.

Not to mention he was the Chief of Staff for the previous republican governor.

That’ll fix everything. Nothing like some good ole Louisiana old school conservative politics.

Louisiana has only had 4 republican governors since Reconstruction.

Treen was essentially a placeholder between Edwin Edwin administrations back in the early 80’s.

Roemer was elected as a democrat but switched to republican during his one term. He was literally in bed with a communist environmentalist whom he empowered at DEQ. Dude was an anti-business republican. He was so bad that he failed to make a runoff against David Duke and Edwin Edwards.

Foster was a two-term republican who is arguably the best governor in the history of the state. He really overhauled civil service, revitalized the industrial sector, and greatly improved downtown BR.

Jindal was a two-term disappointment who came into office with a ton of promise but delivered half-baked reforms that all turned out to be shams before running a failed bid for President. Ethics reform, stelly tax, school choice, dismantling the charity hospital system, failed attempts at consolidating higher ed, etc were all hallmarks of proposals meant to look good to national donors, but failed to actually deliver positive change.

So, if we don’t count Roemer who was elected as a democrat, republicans are batting 1/3 as governors.

The state needs better business which attracts jobs, revenue, infrastructure, etc.

It’s not that hard to understand.

The problem is that Louisiana businesses actually don’t want that. They don’t want growth because they fear competition more than they desire fore a larger pie. Louisiana’s government is based around entrenched business interests being able to use state government resources to protect themselves from outside or upstart competitors.

Lucky Dog is literally written into the state constitution as the only food cart permitted to operate in the French Quarter. That’s how entrenched this mindset is.

Mike Foster. He wasn’t a giant intellect either but he had a lot of common sense.

bullshite. He was no conservative.

In an era when the country was experiencing unprecedented growth, and when the Louisiana budget consistently had a surplus, did Foster use any of that surplus to pay down the unfunded liabilities? Did he rebuild bridges or otherwise invest in infrastructure? No, he gave it away to cronies to build syrup mills and other bullshite pork projects.

With all the economic positives in the 90s, what did Foster get for Louisiana?

Louisiana’s economy, due to being based on agriculture and energy, is often antithetical to the national economy. When the nation is down, we’re up. When the nation is up, we’re down. I don’t remember Louisiana being prosperous economically during the 90’s. However, the policies of Foster resulted in a major petrochemical boom in the 2000’s and early 2010’s.

When I say “best” governor, I really mean “least bad”. Louisiana has rarely ever had governors who were not actively harmful to the wellbeing of the state.

Wags is the better candidate because he isn't already in Gordon and Morris Bart's pocket. But I think it's a done deal. Landry will likely win.

Then in 4 years, this state will look EXACTLY like it does right now. There will be no tort reform, no insurance reform, the budget will be the same if not higher, taxes will be the same if not higher, we will be losing population, BR/NOLA will still be a crime zone, etc.

But you'll be able to pat yourself on the back and say "Hey look, we got ourselves a Republican governor."

I'm pretty sure Louisiana ran a budget surplus every year of Foster reign. What did he do with the money? Rebate it to the taxpayers? Pay down debt? Invest in infrastructure? Anything conservative?

Like I said in a previous thread, in an uneducated state such as Louisiana, both Democrats and Republicans turn into just grifters once they're in office.

I don't think Landry is dumb. He is an opportunist saying what he needs to say to court Louisiana's base conservative voters, who are dumb. In office, he will throw Trumpy bombs and screech some hard right slogans to get attention. But he will not get much done.

“Landry didn’t run against JBE”

Exactly. Because he is a coward. He didn’t like his chances with a moderate democrat, so he sat out to throw angry words around and position himself for 2023. Then, we ended up with honor code for four more years. Coward!

Well said, Vista. Spot on. He can throw angry words, and position himself where needed. But, he isn’t a good candidate, and will likely have a reminiscent tenure to Jindal’s. Croneyism is going to get rewarded by Landry on the left and right. But hey, trump told conservatives to vote for him.

My favorite quote from EWE when debating Dave Treen. “(Treen) is so slow, it takes him an hour and a half to watch 60 minutes.”
