Eventually someone would spill the beans. People would notice world leaders jetting off to some undisclosed location and not returning. One could notice subtle changes in the global stock markets and their trading patterns. Most likely to best place to survive would be in a base on the Moon.

There isnt anywhere to hide if a 4km size rock runs into the planet

Might as well just go for the ride

So, when they tell you they’ll take your child into the bunker to save their life, what do you do?

What happens will depend on the mass of the asteroid. If it's made up of ice and rock, it'll hurt, but humanity will survive it. If it's solid iron ore, we're all fricked. That would create such a powerful impact that the entire Earth would shudder and so much material thrown up into the atmosphere around Earth that nuclear winter would set-in for decades. Everything we give a shite about would die.

What if the current supply chain issues are actually because the elite are hoarding resources for themselves in bunkers?

Nah. Most people would be fine, especially if it lands in the middle of the ocean. If it strikes land then you have a new mini ice age.

A 4km size asteroid impact would be a near extinction level event regardless where it hits the earth….lol! That’s like 10,000,000 of the biggest hydrogen bombs going off simultaneously. Life would likely continue but it would probably be a near reset with only simple life forms surviving.

My understanding is that a regular 4km wide rock would not be an extinction level event other than the potential to cover the earth in dust, depending on where it hits.

Let’s just agree if the estimated 10 km asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs, that did land in the ocean off the Yucatán peninsula was capable of that extinction event, then a 4km asteroid hitting anywhere on earth outside of the deepest ocean depths would probably wipeout +90% of human life. Take that 4km asteroid and impact that sucker in Asia….there’s 30-40% of the earths human life gone in the first few days or weeks.
