Same here.

He is less screwed up now than when he was running for office.
This is true. Once he recovered from the stroke, his brain improved. Hence, he has some common sense positions.

Is Fetterman getting smeared by the Left or is he truly screwed up?
yes

The LEFT covered for Dementia Joe as well as Strokin' John.
As long as they find you useful, it's not a big deal.

I’m from Pennsylvania and did not vote for him, but he’s the best Democrat Senator we’ve got…so there’s that.

The notorious Willie Brown always had that Edwin Edwards style charm where you know he's a scumbag but it's still hard to not like him. I always expected him to land the Dem VP slot one day but I guess he saw King of San Francisco during the dot.com boom as a better gig. In hindsight, I guess I can't blame him. But he's far too old these days.

He’s fricked up but they had no problem with it as long as he was towing the line for their side.

I listened to a podcast with Selena Zito, a long time conservative reporter from western PA, who’s known Fetterman since his first mayoral race 20 years ago. She said the Fetterman you see now is the Fetterman she’s known for 20 years, the only time he was different was around the time of his stroke. He’s never received establishment party support during his primary campaigns so he’s not beholden to them. She said the problem is that his staff is trying to undermine him since they can’t control him anymore.

Dem plantation, whether master or slave, is like the Mafia. You can never just walk away.

Fetterman is an interesting case. I followed him since he became the mayor of Braddock, which is my mom's hometown and actually met him a few times when I lived in Pennsylvania He's a well educated guy and definitely an odd fit with with the how the current democrats are positioning themselves.
I say he's an interesting case, because that while if you look at the surface, he's definitely a liberal, but the key things that he has hammered on in his career don't really line up with the current left. He's 100% a union supporter, but the current crop of Dems are losing their grip there. Next point, I will give him a lot of credit here and oddly he aligns with Trump more than any Dem with this, he puts the people and citizens first. Braddock is quite literally one of the worst places in the country you could ever visit. If you've ever seen the Christian Bale movie "Out of the Furnace" it takes place there and is truly as bad as it's represented. He made that place easily 100x better just by giving a damn about what happened there and made a real effort to improve how things worked there.
Long story short, he's actually done some good things while in government, is willing to be independent, definitely liberal but likely not a hard leftist that doesn't fit with the current day democrat party. He's a wild card that I don't think the party will tolerate in the next election cycle.
