I have been considering for at least six months. Honestly longer than that, the Nissan Leaf, as pathetic and ugly as that little thing is, used to be advertised 5-10 years ago for less than $200/month - if you were in a position to get free charging, a number that low could legitimately be a net cost benefit.
I’ve always thought the govt has royally fricked up the incentive, this would be a third car for us and would be used to offset nearby mileage on our aging but otherwise great vehicles. Families like mine should have been incentivized to increase demand and justify the R&D and infrastructure, all the while decreasing the overall fuel consumption (at least at the pump consumption). Instead, the market is dominated by people living in urban areas with expensive power fight over paid public charging stations
The EV (particularly Tesla) lease deals have been very compelling. Model 3 was like $335 with nothing down last month, and the old model Ys can be had for that this month. That’s cheap for a brand new, proven EV with a good charge network. Some other brands like Subaru and Honda have similarly great deals. They come with decent buyout options that would be particularly attractive if you don’t expect to hit mileage limits - the buyout options are pretty close to the current market values.
However, the used EV credit is particularly compelling for me. I can probably still qualify in 2025. A used model 3 with 50-100k can be found for $17-20k. You can get a used Chevy Bolt with less than 20k miles for the price of a nice golf cart with the credit. Seriously, the market is flooded with them and could be had for like $10-12k. This also applies to plug in hybrids, there are a couple of cool options out there.

I’m on the other end of it. My next vehicle will be a 70s or 80s model pickup. The only tech I want is cold AC and a radio.

The only question Im left with is where to place my new TRUMP 2028 bumper sticker.

No. They are good looking cars but not practical for where I live and what I need
I’ll never own anything other than a full size truck or SUV and it will be an ICE until those cease to exist.

Tesla’s have the best overall tech in the EV and automated driving market.
I am more of a sedan/wagon guy with my daily drivers. So the fact that Tesla only offers a compact and large options is disappointing. Wish they had something equivalent to a 5-series, E-class, or A6.
I drive a 540i, so I’m more likely to get an i5 as my first EV tbh. I do not care for the Tesla interiors and so much so that I’d take less range and slightly inferior self-driving to not be in it.
However, the tech is impressive. Some people will not be as opinionated about the high usage human interaction bits or even prefer it. To each their own. Admittedly, all manufacturers are getting a bit too button and knob poor.

The new Y is legit. I just can’t do a car with limited mileage. I didn’t know they charge you to charge them at stations.

People on the rt buy what they want.
People on the left bought Teslas to virtue signal.
It was always about the mandate.
How the frick are you going to mandate every vehicle is an ev in a city like New Orleans. It was fricking stupid from the beginning.
But unless Tesla starts making hybrids for a daily driver, I won’t be buying.

I wouldn’t tell anybody if I did buy an electric vehicle. I’m a blue collar working man. Those things are for yuppies and geeks.

Nobody has made an EV truck that is a replacement for a body on frame ICE truck. I’ll be nursing my old beater Silverado until the heat death of the universe I reckon. Trucks are too damn expensive to be a utility vehicle (true 3rd/4th vehicle situation) these days. I can’t justify spending that kind of money for something that spends most of its time at the back of my property with the tractor equipment and trailers.

I think it’s cheaper than the pump but much more time consuming which is the real rub.

Thoughts if he built this?

I feel EV's are about 10 to 15 years away from being practical. Still many kinks to work out.
I don’t really see that.

And that’s why. They have actually done well producing functional vehicles that run on battery, the problem is with consumer expectations.
Too much focus of R&D placed on range (a lot like combustion engine MPG). The focus should have been longevity of the fuel/battery cell.

I bought one last week. Loving it.

I’m intrigued by the Scout commercials on YouTube TV - anybody seen them? It looks like VW will be making them. They will be electric and hybrid.

Socially awkward nerdling autistic Elon = Nazi for hand gesture
Volkswagen - You are intrigued by cars made from a company started by the real Nazis that used concentration camp slave labor?
Just doing a heat check on your usual nuclear level hypocrisy

I tried to buy a Tesla, but I bought a BMX iX M60 EV instead. Teslas are great in the average car range, but they suck if you are looking for a high end EV.

If we get fair trade with China then the Chinese EV will be substantially cheaper

I'm no EV apologist, but the Silverado EV has a 400 mile range. So, some EVs have the range to quell any anxiety one might have.
*And you can buy one for as little as $58K.
