Just think. There are 90 million potential Christian voters in this country, only HALF of them actually vote.

If we could get 80-90% of them to vote regulary in elections, we could set up a true theoracy.

Reading between the lines you are acknowledging that black churches are more politically active and this, if applied equally, assuming no scandals and not a smidgeon of corruption, would hurt them more because you are defending it.

This is about free speech and freedom to practice whatever religion you want. It's one of the founding principals this country was founded on. If you can't see the dangers, and if you see all of this as progress you cannot be helped.

DOJ and black churches. Whites not afforded same treatment

I'm amazed all this shady IRS stuff isn't all over the news. Shame on most of our Media for not protecting all Americans the same. There seems to be wrong doings happening within the IRS these days and other Government agencies too. Without question, there's enough smoke to warrent a serious investigation to what's happening or happened. Suppose when someone livelihood(Job) is in question, doing what's right or wrong gets lost sometimes. Do we have to screen which party or ideology someone believes in before they're hired on to goverment jobs? Sorta like we make sure private companies hire a certain number of women to men or enough % of minorities.

Anyone defending the IRS these days
Is blinded by party affilation or uninformed

I'm not acknowledging black churches are more politically active. I'm acknowledging complaints I've seen on this board re this...which is why I said one would think conservatives would favor this.

And your link and title don't add up. Churches, white or black, can seek advice as to how far they can go without breaking the law. There's no conspiracy here.

As for "the dangers", it's the law and has been the law. Nothing has changed except the IRS has agreed to move toward enforcing it.

Nothing stops a church or an organization from campaigning. The IRS cannot stop anyone from campaigning. But if you campaign for candidates when you applied for tax exempt status claiming you would not do so, it's a bit disingenuous to claim your rights are being violated.

Also, apparently the IRS investigated 80 complaints from 2004 - 2008 re political activity and stopped in 2009.
LINK

That's no doubt why the lawsuit was filed.

Sounds like one of those "sue and settle" deals where everything is worked out ahead of time, FFRF then "sues" IRS, IRS agrees to "settle", and liberty gets the "shaft".

ETA: Late again

Sounds more like there was a law in place that the IRS was actively ignoring. Atheist groups sent in complaints and evidence that these churches were abusing their tax exempt status and the IRS still did nothing. So then the group sued the IRS, and the IRS said that they would enforce the law they should've been enforcing the entire time.

But somehow this is about the IRS overstepping its boundaries.

A number of ones in Mississippi decided to go all-out for Cochran in MS over Daniels, likely due to Haley Barbour and company paying them off.

No. Unlike many progressives--conservatives don't consider trashing the Constitution and impeding religious freedom worth an election advantage.

Silly. Why should churches be barred from politics?

We just need to abolish the IRS altogether. I believe the Fair Tax would pretty much cover this.

That's the difference between conservatives and liberals. You expect conservatives to support something because it "hurts" black churches. In reality the conservatives are more concerned with freedom than hurting the "other side". A democrat will give up freedom in a heartbeat if it means hurting the "other side". To a dem it's an us vs them amongst Americans.

Oh and why do you assume conservatives are "against" black churches.

No, it's not that simple at all. Churches are now under threat for speaking out against things that go against their beliefs.

But we all know that's 100% fine with you.
