Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard forces are expected to begin a major exercise in the Persian Gulf as soon as within the next 48 hours that could be aimed at demonstrating their ability to shut down the Strait of Hormuz, according to two US officials directly familiar with the latest US assessment of IRGC troop movements.
As of now, the US assesses the IRGC has assembled a fleet of more than 100 boats, many of them small fast moving vessels. It's expected Iranian air and ground assets including coastal defensive missile batteries could be involved. Hundreds of Iranian troops are expected to participate and some regular Iranian forces could be involved as well.

All this does is give us an opportunity to see how they operate. Kinda stupid on their part

Saw report last week that USN moving at least 1 destroyer into the channel in preparation for this. Pretty sure that's enough to take down the entire Iranian navy in about 15 minutes or less (depends on range, travel time of munitions).

I've seen better ships on the quad.

One US destroyer would make their “navy” scatter back home like an ICE truck showing up at home depot.

Place all of their assets in a small area. Not very smart. A conflict with Iran would be swift and deadly for them.

Probably ships for the sole purpose of scuba divers strapped with C-4 jackets to swim to our ships.

Should send that destroyer right through the middle of their exercise.

How many of these do we have in the region?

Those A-10s would have a field day with those speed boats

Betcha part of the deal for China to defy US sanctions and buy Iranian oil included getting the mullahs to agree to do this dustup.
Im sure they can read the polls in china just like I can here in Trinidad. US citizens do not want another mess in the middle east. Might sway the polls and get control of the house and impeach Trump and get him off the chini backs regarding trade.
Always follow the money boys, always follow the money.

When they last did this in the eighties it was a hell of a task keeping the sea lanes open, involving convoys and heavy patrolling. They don't actually have to close the strait, they just have to hit a couple of ships and make the insurance companies nervous. No insurance coverage, no tankers in the Persian Gulf.

The average pleasure boat on False River is more sea worthy than the Iranian navy.

I’d like to see how these little junkets can physically block a tanker or cargo ship.
Seems like a dangerous game of chicken for Iran.

Is that the reason we have U.S. sailors surrendering to them, or?

Just the sound of a few A-10’s making strafing runs would demoralize their navy.
I used the word “navy” very generously.
