Let’s take Lebanese Hezbollah.
The Israelis call them terrorists. But they don’t use terror as a weapon, and when they do conduct attacks, the do so with forces in uniform, and they hit military targets.
Hezbollah actually has an impressive light infantry forces. That’s their bread and butter. And they’re more capable than the IDF in a fight.

Hadi Alaameei who was arrested by the American marines tonight in #Baghdad, had visited the White house earlier during Obama’s administration.
Hadi was leading the attacks and the siege on the American embassy in Baghdad

I don't think Trump is, but someone in a think tank in DC? Absolutely.
I've argued previously that without an immediate opposition group to support inside Iran, it will 100% be packaged as another nation-building exercise. But Iran's terrain, population and patriotism means that controlling that population will be extremely difficult, and require much more manpower than Iraq or Afghanistan.

This is wild.
Out of curiosity, how in the hell do they confirm the identity of those killed? I would imagine those scenes are absolute chaos. Do we rush in ground forces to remove the bodies for identification?

Perhaps peace in our time could work out better.
That’s a silly comparison.
In what way does Iran resemble Nazi Germany.
And in what we do they pose an imminent threat.
And how is that threat comparable to Nazi Germany.
Further, how likely is American action likely to be effective in preventing a larger war. As an allied intervention in 38 would have.
To the contrary, how likely is American action likely to create a larger war?

Hezbollah soundly defeated the IDF in the July War. It was a lopsided loss.
The IDF has structural problems. They’re a conscript force and soldiers don’t receive adequate training. Worse, Jerusalem can’t depend on Israelis to show up.
IIRC 20% of those called up in 06 actually made it their muster points.
Also, no career NCOs. That’s why discipline is so bad in the IDF.
Hezbollah on the hand, they built a professional army. The core of their force are contract soldiers.
They also have capable leadership who appear to have received a serious education in the military arts.
They fortifications they built in southern Lebanon were designed to slow the attack and channel the Israeli forces into kill zones.
They worked. They worked really well.
And the underground fortifications. Those were a pain. In a month of fighting, Israel was unable to secure Bint Jbiel which is just 2 or e kilometres from the border with Israel.

Pentagon:
"At the direction of the President, the U.S. military has taken decisive defensive action to protect U.S. personnel abroad by killing Qasem Soleimani, the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force, a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization."
More from statement:
"General Soleimani was actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region."
"General Soleimani and his Quds Force were responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American and coalition service members and the wounding of thousands more."
"He had orchestrated attacks on coalition bases in Iraq over the last several months - including the attack on December 27th - culminating in the death and wounding of additional American and Iraqi personnel."
"General Soleimani also approved the attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad that took place this week."
"This strike was aimed at deterring future Iranian attack plans. The United States will continue to take all necessary action to protect our people and our interests wherever they are around the world."

You are out of your mind if you think the IDF was soundly defeated in July. This is quite honestly the most absurd statement I have read on here in years and that is saying something so congratulations on winning that trophy.
