Something about the timing of the terrorist intel we gave Putin a week ago make me put my money on the Russians giving Soleimani up.
That would be such an interesting twist and would absolutely throw a wrench into Iran’s gears.

I would much rather be on better terms with Russia, and this would be a good sign, IMO.

Jerusalem had to be highly offended about that attack on a US Embassy

They’ve been trying to get us to kill Soleimani for years. They see him as a kind of nemesis.

Putin has been kissing Trump's behind trying to get sanctions relief.

You ever watch those combat videos from Syria? Wouldnt call that battle-ready.

Watched plenty. Lebanese Hezbollah grew in operational capabilities to the degree that they are among the most effective paramilitary forces in the region. The PMF, who are made up primarily of Shia fighters, made up the ground forces that fought ISIS in plenty of engagements.

The real danger is the organization that Iran gave to fighters from Afghanistan and Pakistan, regions where Shia have been persecuted, who will no doubt return to those countries and attempt reprisals if they are targeted again, which will extend sectarian conflict.

Ehhh...I don’t think you can safely make that claim.

The individuals that were in the vehicle with him are a sign of the opposite being true.

No, no I’m not.

You might want to educate yourself.

If breathing was voluntary, you’d be in bad shape.

US troops in Iraq - including the reinforcements just rushed there to protect the Embassy - will all be potential targets. So too US ships in the Gulf. Widespread assumption in Washington is that Iran will retaliate on a significant scale.

Gareth Browne @BrowneGareth Contact in Baghdad says there is a lot of anger from Hashid over rumours Iraqi intelligence cooperated with US to carry out tonight’s strikes. Something to keep an eye on.

Word around the campfire is that Iraqi intelligence cooperated with the US in making this happen. Guess they had gotten a belly full of an Iranian running shite in their country.

The few Iranians I talked to in Dubai believed that money given to Hezbollah from there government is funneled to terrorism cells.

What were we defending?

Our Embassy? Our citizens and soldiers?

Our right to a continued occupation of Iraq?

Sure. Unless you think that Hezbollah and Iran should dictate our foreign policy to us.

Is that presence even desirable?

Apparently it is to Hezbollah and Iran. That should tell you something, shouldn’t it?

quote:

And is it really worth it, If it means a regional war?

Pretty sure our enemies will suffer about 100,000 times more than we will. Except for those of us who have to listen to you bitch and bemoan the fact that we won’t cede control of the entire Middle East to Iran.
