If we are smart, we will keep ME oil flowing, sell a ton of weapons, and allow the sunnis and shiites to fight each other.

Nothing like some good ole middle eastern geopolitical conflicts to boost oil prices, I’ll take whatever we can get at this point.

As a former shipbroker I’d like to see the dialogue between the ship owners and the charterers on this one.

Ship owner: heyyy so we cant really deliver your cargo anymore. We’re just gonna have cancel this charter party.
Charterer: what happened?
Ship owner: just turn on the news.
Broker: *flips desk over*

Yep.

They got out on the battlefield and reenacted WWI.

It (frac’ing) is regulated on the state level. Only state I know it’s illegal is New York (liberals, AOC, ran off amazon too). But yeah just saying the oil independence is more of a function of a new technology application than politics.

Well I’d imagine the ship owners will declare force majeure as technically it’s not a war zone and it’s completely out of their control. Charterers could say otherwise and be assholes and say it was a war zone and the owners didn’t take proper steps to avoid. But that would be bull shite with all the traffic that goes through there. So I guess they will just recoup on the loss from insurance.

Pretty sure we just tried to do that but Congress blocked it.

If this is proven to be Iran all parties shipping in the area need to take a zero-tolerance policy against any Iranian ships in the area. They think the economic sanctions are bad now? Wait until anything that ventures more than a mile away from their shores gets sunk.

We already know who did it. Question is only if the proof and truth comes out.

One of the vessels involved was identified as the MT Front Altair, a Marshall Islands-flagged but Norwegian-owned crude oil tanker carrying naphtha, a petrochemical product, to Japan.

if this intensifies, i wonder how many of these vessels will change flags to US/UK/France in order to get escort protection.

i remember back in the 90s Iran dropping mines in the gulf, and US ships only escorted US flagged ships, and there was a rush to change flag registrations....
