This is essentially par for the course in undeveloped Latin American countries. When you import a ton of uneducated and poor 3rd worlders, expect 3rd world culture and 3rd world political behavior.

This judge is on house arrest and still on the straight D voting ballot.

EDINBURG — State District Judge Rodolfo “Rudy” Delgado is retiring and resigning effective immediately, he announced Monday during a news conference held in the courtroom he headed for nearly two decades.

quote:

The announcement comes two months after a federal grand jury indicted him on three counts of federal bribery and three counts of violating the federal Travel Act, charges to which he pleaded not guilty.

quote:

“I believe it is in the public’s best interest that the 93rd District Court continues to operate,” Delgado said in a letter he read aloud to those in the courtroom, which included a handful of attorneys and members of the media.

“Some people may consider this announcement as some type of admission of culpability with respect to the pending charges,” he continued. “They would be wrong in doing so. It is simply, the right thing to do.”

quote:

Federal investigators allege Delgado, 65, accepted approximately $6,000 in cash bribes from a local attorney between November 2016 and January 2018 in exchange for setting bonds for three clients accused of violating probation.
Delgado may face additional charges, according to a motion for continuance his attorney filed earlier this month, which noted that federal prosecutors had informed them that “a superseding indictment is possible.” Such an indictment, which replaces the original, could include new charges, different charges or additional defendants.

quote:

A few people are already lobbying for the Democratic Party nomination, Godinez said, among them former district court judge Fernando Mancias and local attorneys Orlando Jimenez and Ted Lopez. Attorney Patricia “Patty” Y. O’Caña-Olivarez’s name has also been tossed around as a possible nominee, he added.

Of course only exclusively Hispanic judges are being mentioned...because WHY NOT? They're not racist are they?

quote:

Delgado took no questions during his news conference and did not address whether he will remain in the race for a seat on the 13th Court of Appeals.
Delgado ran unopposed for the appellate court’s Place 4 seat, securing the Democratic Party candidacy for the November general election against Republican Jaime Tijerina, who is the assistant city attorney for Mission and a former district court judge.
Godinez said the local and state Democratic parties are reviewing the law “to determine what if anything can be done regarding (Delgado’s) candidacy for the 13th Court of Appeals.”

Too late to take him off the ballot at this point. Besides, indicted =/= convicted. Otherwise Ken Paxton would need to come off the ballot too.

and still on the straight D voting ballot.
A lot of times this is an administrative and/or legal issue, and candidates can’t be legally removed after some point, or they can’t effectively change the ballots after some point.

The same thing is happening with some of the congressman who were recently indicted. And besides, an indictment may or may not be enough to get a name removed, unless the law permits it and/or the indictee agrees to it. A conviction would be a different matter then.

Right. Not judges. Huge difference between a judge and congressman.

Texas has a law that states anyone convicted of a felony cannot run for state public office; they don't give conditions regarding the person being a Judge or a Treasurer. While indicted, the person may still run. It would be a sticky legal situation to bar a person from running and then for them to be found Not Guilty of the charges you based a decision to bar them from running.

The Senate and House have no such stipulations; you could be IN prison and still be elected as a US Senator. No doubt they see the possibility of the majority of them residing there.
