At a local grocer after church this morning, I got in line behind a lady who was buying what looked like 6 bags of discounted Easter candy. She didn’t know how much was left on her EBT. The cashier scanned it to give a balance and she had $3.97.

They figured out that she could buy 4 bags of candy and have about $0.05 left, so that’s what she did.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I believe this lady was a bit mentally retarded, so I’m not putting her on blast for buying candy. However, I’m surprised folks are allowed to buy such frivolous items with government assistance.

When I was a kid bagging groceries back in the late 80s, I remember cashiers kept a cart (buggy) next to the register for the put-back items customers’ food assistance wouldn’t cover. Things like velveta, certain cereals, etc. would not be paid for. What has changed?

This lady is now out of EBT funds and it’s only mid-month. Are these things reloaded weekly?

It doesn't matter much what it covers. What matters is putting timeline restrictions on it for folks physically capable of working.

We need to reform the disability requirements as well.

The timeline restrictions is absolutely the way to go but there would be so much pushback with that. It needs to happen.

I worked at a grocery in the 80s. The items I remember that were excluded from food stamp purchases were toilet paper, tobacco, booze, and pet food.

It's funny to me that you say this because the last time this was tried it was portrayed entirely as a race issue and everyone who wanted to do it was portrayed as a racist

As such. We're Republicans to try it again I have no doubt that you would fall right in line the second the Democrats and black leaders told you to cry racism again

Lol

You would fall in line like a lemming in about 5 Seconds the moment all of the black leaders in the Democrats cry racism when Republicans propose a timeline for welfare

That's why you just reacted the way you did because you know I'm right

I'm just calling you out for what you are. You are a piece of shite and I enjoy letting you know.

On the subject of welfare and EBT I've been quite consistent. Now carry on with your partisan vitriol. It's all you have going on in your life.

Oh I'm so disappointed that the resident black racist thinks I'm a piece of shite

I'm still correct. You would fold like a fricking cheap tent if Republicans proposed to time line and Democrats cried racism

of course you have because your slave owners haven't become engaged on the subject in your adult life time

But if Republicans proposed it you would fall in line

I think we should allow EBT for purchase of opioids.
Then they overdose and die. It saves the EBT program the next 40 years they would have lived.

The system is a result of the patrons and their voting habits.

How about saying a prayer for her instead running to start a debate
