I remember back in the 90's when the environmentalist wackos were really getting some media attention over the level of greenhouse gases due to anthropogenic activities. Rush Limbaugh had a study by a scientist who estimated that prior to the ability of man to fight wildfires with aerial tankers, heavy equipment, smoke jumpers building fire breaks, etc. fires burned uncontrollably until they burned out. That study estimated that one large western wildfire in the early 1900's put out more greenhouse gases than all of the automobiles in the US in one year.
