When I started just 4.5 years ago it was $11.00

$7 increase per hour in under 5 years and $3.50 in the past 6 months.

This is in Alabama. The economy is fricked.

And I bet you’re still having trouble hiring people. Muh $15 an hour.

And you're still not keeping up with inflation.

I’m sure they gave all existing employees a 25% raise as well, right? Right?

Yep, and there was just a raise to $16 for them. That lasted a couple months and it’s already up to $18 now.

No one wants to work and they are making twice what I made out of high school.

my wife's company is paying $25/hr for sitting at a desk and answering phone calls. 5 years ago it was $12.

But I’m sure those companies won’t increase their prices due to higher costs.

That’s what Circle Back Jen told us.

Old fixed debt can be paid off if you have the money.

If the rates are adjustable or you are getting fricked on credit cards, less so.

The only benefits of inflation is debt reduction opportunities.

Oh yeah, sure.

Let’s see, get a 25% raise, but your rent has gone up, gas prices have gone up, food prices have gone up, energy prices are up, and taxes are gonna go up, but hey, you got a raise. Maybe have $5 more per week to save. Hurray!

I started bagging groceries at Kroger in 1969 at minimum wage of $1.60

Here is a calculator that can show you how much inflation increased equivalent wage is:

I've related my stories about the hiring signs around the KC Metro since the fall of 2020. Basically, if you're not making $20/hour you're either in your dream job making less than $20/hr or you're an idiot. Which reminds me, I need to have a discussion with my daughter.
