easier target and just as lethal as a head shot

He's not arguing that a center mass shot would not have been effective, just that he came extremely close on the difficult head shot he did in fact take.

I've shot running deer at 250 yards.

I've killed a few moving coyotes at that distance with my AR with the iron sights.
That rifle is a tack driver.

Probably wouldn't be my first choice, but a good AR-15 is plenty accurate enough for that shot. Then you add in the advantage of being able to break it down in pieces to hide in different places on site ahead of time, or disguised as a folding chair, and snap it together in a few seconds.
On top of that, a loony lefty killing Trump with an AR-15 would probably be some kind of political statement.

A trained marksman would target center of mass... not the head

Shooter was only 20 years old. Just out of curiosity does anyone know the legal age to own a rifle in Pennsylvania? I'm willing to bet it is either 18 or 21. Pretty hard ot train someone at that age without them going into the military if that is the case. Just going by the high school yearbook photos of him he doesn't exactly put off William Tell vibes.

A lot of hunters in western Pa. and hunting families. Kids grow up shooting, just like in the South.

Exactly why you don't take headshots on game animals. Center mass can't move out of the way fast enough. Heads can.

What concerns me more is the negligence (or on purpose) leaving that rooftop totally unguarded. I have listened to many experts in this area by now. Something isn’t right about leaving the closest rooftop open with a clear shot at the president.

Anyone who ever watched a movie or read a book knows better.

It's criminal negligence at best.

Dumb
you ought to see the European mount I did and how much time it takes to even have a chance at a deer like that. Plus, I had had several years of nothing to shoot other than meat (does).

Taking a headshot at 125 yards with 556 is amateurish as frick

I am more on the line of thinking that he was aiming center mass and missed that badly. We had active shooter training at work and the consultant said amateurs tend to miss high and right because they have the adrenaline rush and are not calmed down.

Trained shooters work heavily on this I am told.

I’m still going to roll with the opinion that he was a huge amateur.

If you want Trump dead, you don’t take the head shot from that distance. You aim center mass.

It's completely unacceptable. Not that I have any faith in the government as far as public service goes but they typically atleast take care of themselves. With the technology and resources the government has that dude should have been trying to make that shot from a mile away if not farther. That's a bad look at our secret service. I assumed (and rightly so) at this point in time an American president's assanation or attempt would not be at a planned speech where he is literally a planted target.

The Report is going to one of two ways... It was either a random nut, or an organized attempt.

I know where I am going to put my money..

Aim center mass

He was hoping for one shot one instant kill and had no partner like a true trained sniper has

Very amateurish

With the info that is out he was 1 in. off of target killed. That is good at that range whoever you are whatever you are shooting. God bless miracles.
