Florida bans Direct to Consumer car sales

quote:

A new Florida law changes how cars can be sold in the Sunshine State, hampering the nation's largest automakers while boosting electric vehicle makers.

Gov. Ron DeSantis this week approved HB 637, which bars legacy automakers from offering a direct-to-consumer or online sales option if the company already sells vehicles in the state through dealership. That means companies with existing car lots — like Ford and General Motors — are included in the ban.

I'd like an explanation for this besides cronyism but I bet there isn't one.

Dealership owners are friendly with and donate to FL legislators.

I don't agree with DeSantis on this.

Ron should have punted this crap

Tesla is suing Louisiana over similar DTC bans

quote:

Tesla launched a new lawsuit1 to challenge the State of Louisiana's direct sale ban, which prohibits Tesla from selling, leasing and servicing its electric vehicles in the State

Protecting dealerships needs to go away.

Ordering from factory is a fairly common thing to do. This will effect a lot of people. Somebody's going to make money setting up a drop off address just across the Georgia line

Why does that matter? Does Ron lead from the front or is he status quo?

So basically the old school dealership type companies aren’t allowed to convert over to direct to customer in order to protect salesman’s jobs?

Sounds like a win for Tesla

Because it's going to be pretty fricking hard for you to spin this if you can't point to someone doing it better.

That's OK, I'll wait. Go ahead.

What a horrible excuse. Ron had the chance to be a leader yet chose to fall in line. Classic GOPe
